Hello, I was wondering if these games were appropriate for my child to play. He is 12 years old and frequently plays Call of Duty and Battlefield 4.
Would these games be appropriate?

Grand Theft Auto V
Far Cry 4
Dragon Age: Inquisition
Watch Dogs
Assassins Creed: Unity

Thanks!
Nick

Go back to the 1st post in this thread. At end of the 1st post you should see "Stop tracking this thread" or something similar.

This thread will be locked tomorrow if the OP makes no other response.
i would say that if you really want to know watch a youtube playthrough but i would let him play all but just turn off voice chat and if hes played gta VI then its not like gts V is hugely different

assassins creed is great they make you think and have cool story lines of all the games this is the one i would buy him.
also maybe try a total war game are a big strategy game with some violence but you see it from a distance and it makes your brain switch on.

Have you never asked a question that you already had a point of view on (fixed mindset) but simply wanted to hear others opinions?

I have and in a few rare occasions my opinion was changed. Maybe all he really wanted was to see what other people thought of those games and hopefully get some new insight into the maturity levels. I think he did take some of what was said into consideration. I gathered most people on here think GTA V is the worse out of the games mentioned, it is possible he at least dropped that one.

I remember going to Denmark with my parents; as a kid of 13; and seeing a 2-foot-long dildo (9-inches round) in a shop window in the high street. I stood looking and wondered what the heck it was until it dawned on me.
That was 40 years ago.
It didn`t mess me up, but my parents looked kind of sheepish.

They have a cock festival here in Japan. Anyway; NO, if you give them GTAIV today, tomorrow you will give them training manuals in goat torture & kiddy rape.

indeed europe has some brain messed up strategy about nudity and all that crap. another input about dragon age. the game can be modded with all kind of crap. so don't go "wondering how" when you block adult websites for him and he still gets the stuff in games with the help of some "awesome" (not really) mods....
btw take this into account as well (might be the case or not but still xd) : "what if the child wrote the post on this thread, waits for good looking answers and then copy pastes all that which suits his interests hell knows where, then shows his parent that those games are good (according to other people experiences) and makes the parent buy the games for him." - not a joke. i know such kids xD
not all parents have the time to do more investigation and some just trust their children.
and madmax nop, not at all. you don't just go somewhere, ask something and then go revolution mode on all those answers you don't like. further investigation is necessary if more people answer negative to a question. he didn't even give any valid reason why he rejects them. just some confident complaints (which kinda lead to the possibilty that the person already has his mind set).
to me it still looks like cheap trol >_>
though the thread is really good. some other parents might come across this thread and read it. then they will have more information about the contents of those games and make their decisions.

I agree, it may be a cheap troll though I'm not convinced either way.
Yeah this is a good thread for other people looking for games for their kids, that is if they can weed through all the posts and find the relevant info. Doesn't Tom's have an article on this? If not they should and then we could discuss this stuff there.

yup wish they made one. that would be extremely helpful.
after all you need to know the content before you buy something, especially when it is meant to be used by children.
and there is that damn bad part about some modders. the moment they feel naughty they go making retarded mods for children games -.-
i would happily have them installed right in the washing machine (both the mod and the modder)

really i wouldnt let my child play
Grand Theft Auto V
Far Cry 4
Dragon Age: Inquisition
Watch Dogs
Assassins Creed: Unity

Until they are at least age 15~16 so no you shouldnt let your 12 year old play them and/or any other heavy voilence and/or sexual influenced game. But with that said i am not you and i do not know your own values but as said above those are games rated M and M means age 18+.
You should probably heed the labelings on the box and just get the child rated KA, E, E 10+ and T games. A good example game series would be "The Legend of Zelda"

I need someone to close thread now. This was not a troll thread, I do not know much about games. I have found out how bad these games are, and I will not let my child get them. Thank everyone for their input

Well there you go. He was listening...........

Though I disagree with yumri. I would agree it is entirely up to the parent and they should seriously take into consideration what others opinions are but I sometimes disagree with ratings labels. Every child is different and some parents are really good at determining what their children should be allowed to be entertained by regardless of the maturity ratings.

yep. well i don't agree with the rating labels either. all that matters is the content of the game.
good parents won't allow children to play complete messed up games anyways.
all ended well in the end.
and a hint for parents: beware there are modable games so take the mods into consideration as well

Personally, I'd be more ok with the possible nudity than games like GTA which promote criminal activity. Most shoot'm up games put you in the shoes of a hero, saving people, which seems reasonable to me, but being the bad guy just seems wrong for a kid at least. It may be a game, but you definitely feel the moral foundation of your soul being tugged when playing as a bad guy. I wouldn't want that with a growing child.

Nudity is only an issue because society has made it one. That one is up to you on how you'd want to approach it.

You should always look at the ESRB rating for a game before considering purchasing it. It is analogous the movie ratings. If you feel that your 12 year son is mature enough to deal with certain subject matters, then perhaps at most you should look at games with "Teen" ratings and avoid "Mature" and "Adult Only" rated games.

I will keep this thread open for a little while longer in case you are looking for games that are more appropriate for your son. It is always good to search Youtube for a video review of any potential game you may wish to purchase.
