I started this not because I was trying to justify shifting, but because I just want an AMD system. I was curious who else might be looking to do it. Should have figured it would become a peeing contest between brands.
This is like saying "I just want to be in the bottom 25%"
seems Zen will be a far future CPU
since Zen is targeting directx 12
like that said Zen will be 16 cores cpu, 16 cores cpu only be able to take advantage on directx 12
but not all of them will be 16 cores, some may be less than 16

CPUs don't target graphics APIs. Especially since Zen development started when AMD was still publicly saying DX12 wasn't ever going to happen.
Secondly, DX12 isn't going to magically add performance; if anything, CPU requirements are going to decrease, not increase. DX12 benchmarks have already shown lower class CPUs gain the most, where higher-tier CPUs really don't gain anything.
Case in point, all that many cores is going to accomplish is reduce yields and cost AMD a ton of cash.
*Worth noting, I've been hearing 8 core + 2-way SMT, which is a LOT more believable then 16-core.
