I'm upgrading after years of waiting. I finally bought a couple parts to make sure I got it started so I couldn't wait for the next big thing.

I already have: ASUS VG248QE 24" Full HD 1920x1080 144Hz 1ms HDMI Gaming Monitor
I have bought the Hyper 212 and the Supernova power supply in the following list.

I plan on using this for basic computer work at home as well as gaming. My i7-920 and GTX 260 just don't cut it anymore.

Solution
The 1080 Ti is a 35% performance increase from a 1080. It's a massive improvement, and should let you max out everything at 144fps or very close to.
You should have at least a 1TB HDD.

Can be vastly improved, on both accounts.
The 1700 performs the same as the 7700k at above 1080p gaming, and is better in other applicaations too, but given you already have that monitor...
Above a 250GB SSD is a waste of cash, it's only primarily for OS and software storage, maybe 1-2 games you want faster loading times in. That's all it does.
Do you already have a hard drive?
That's what I'm assuming, but please confirm this.

Get this list, spend a touch more for a 1080 Ti and 7700k.

I don't have a hard drive at the moment. My current one is a Mushkin Enhanced Chronos Deluxe 240gig and I tend to keep it close to full. This drive won't be switching over to the new computer because my current computer will become my wife's for email, excel, word, etc. I know that I tend to have 4-5 large games installed at a time, and at the rate game sizes are increasing, I figured going to 500gigs would be the smart way to go.

Is the 1080 Ti even necessary given the monitor I have?

I've also highly debated the 7700k vs the 7600k almost daily.
