Hello, I'm getting ready to purchase a 2.0ghz thoroughbred cpu, however, is it more worthwhile to get the 1.8ghz barton? Which one actually is faster than the other? Keep in mind that this computer will not be overclocked.

Thanks for any replies

For 99% of apps the 2Ghz Tbred will be faster as (unfortunately) the extra cache of the barton doesnt have all that much effect.
The design is allready pretty efficient.

Of course you can still probably overclock the barton to the same level...

But at stock go the Tbred.

You could overclock the Barton to 2ghz without blinking, hardly consider it an o/c. The larger die cools better and the larger cache makes it a lock for me. Go for the Barton.

Oh I'm overclocking now, probably just a little bit, a 2.2 wouldnt be bad.
Wow!! This is an astonishing complete turnaround in a mere 24 hours considering that your first post stated the following:

Keep in mind that this computer will not be overclocked.
