I have always felt that as the gpu is the most heat prone spot in any gamers system the object should to get that heat out of the case not distribute it all over the place to heat up other parts of the system,,
even if it might take [or interfere with] up another slot..
I think that some of the more recent designs with rear exhaust make a lot of sense....
