Why does the Asus G750 laptop have a soldered CPU when your competitors do not (4700HQ rather than the 4700MQ)? Also a soldered GPU rather than a MXM slotted GPU? Don't tell me it's to save weight, your laptop is heavier than the MSI. The 17" MSI has a 9 cell battery weighing 8.6 pounds and the G750 with the 8 cell battery weighs 9.9 pounds.
I don't think it was a good engineering decision. It doesn't attract the computer enthusiasts and I don't see what purpose these limitations have. People like the option of upgrading to an Extreme CPU later on when they get cheaper.
Otherwise the laptop is nice though.
Can you give me reasoning why Asus made this decision?
Thank you

EDIT: I have a feeling that this question isn't going to be answered. Might repost

What's the correct way to pronounce ASUS? I say 'ace-us' but when my girlfriend phoned, the guy answered with 'ah-zoos'. I know the name is derived from 'Pegasus', but that would suggest an 'uh-sus' pronunciation, which wouldn't sound right. Is there concensus at ASUS over pronunciation or does it vary?

Questions are pouring in from Twitter and Facebook as well - I'll filter these through here and post a few of them as they are received.

Here's a handful received so far:

Q. On the ROG 1150 socket do the power phases interfere with a LAN connection in gaming to the point where I might want to use a standalone LAN card?

Q. When will ITX/DTX FF will start getting love in their road maps.

My question:

What goes into creating an Android OS update for your tablets (like does ASUS have to code custom software, talk with other companies like processors to get drivers, testing time, etc), and how is it decided what device gets updated and what don't?

Hey!

Question:

When are you planning to release the GTX780 DCII into the Swedish market? Just wondering if I'm supposed to stick around and wait or just get a reference.

Answer:

This going will be going into production shortly and be available soon in NA as well as other regions. Overall availability should be within the next month or so.

Hello, First post for me here,

After looking at your new Maximus VI Impact (which is awesome), I was wondering if there'd be any chance we'd be seeing any sort of x79-based mini -ITX motherboard.

Hi,
Why Asus isn't concentrating much on the Mini ITX form factor? The haswell provides immense opportunity for an Mini ITX system which is as powerful as a ATX desktop. There are only a few mobos in the category! Moreover only fewer are available in India! I am planning to build a Mini ITX system based on H87 or Z87. Will there be a reasonably priced Mini ITX based on H87 or Z87? If so when will it be available in India?

And does Asus plan for an Android tablet with digitizer stylus (7" to 8" screen size)?

How does ASUS plan to utilize the USB port on the back of their Wireless Routers? Does Asus have any plans for a Home Automation solution?

Hey guys, thanks for doing this AMA :)

Since you are all marketing guys, I think my question will get to the right people. It's about the packaging for your graphics cards. What's with the cheesy/silly/embarrassing bad game-esque renders on the boxes? They're always awful quality, and even if they weren't they're just childish. Is that really the kind of thing that you think will appeal to your audience? I'm willing to bet most of your customers aren't children or teenagers any more - young people nowadays have no idea desktops even have the ability to play games - we're all in our 20's/30's/40's and are enthusiasts and engineers. Why not some simple, elegant packaging like we're seeing increasingly in ultra-mobile products?

Now, you guys are definitely not the worst.... Sapphire are pretty bad with their CG girls everywhere ... but come on, we're adults. Some nice, understated packaging would do a LOT to differentiate you in the marketplace!

How many years do you think it will be before 4K monitors become mainstream? Like say a 27-30" 4K being in the $500-$800 range? Most 4K monitors I see today are between $2K-$4K.

Also when is that new Maximus Formula board being released? The one that was demo'd in that rig @E3 I believe.

I am deaf in one ear, and the Sonic Radar available with the SupremeFX sound on ROG boards is of great interest to me. It may finally allow me to play FPS titles, where knowing the direction of "incoming" is vital. I only recently bought a Maximus V Gene (S1155) that also has SupremeFX. Will Sonic Radar drivers be available for this board too? I'd like not to have to undertake a $500 upgrade so soon after the last one.

The voltage is not actually locked the vbios for the card does allow for overclocking but a correct version of GPU Tweak must be used to allow for the voltage to be adjusted. ASUS has led the industry with extensive overvoltage technologies and performance features for GPUs and we will continue to do so. With that noted it is important to remember that the vbios is co developed and validated with our partners whether it be AMD and Nvidia. I will circle back to see if i can confirm for you on the build required.

I'm currently using a Asus ROG G53JW. Is there a plan to make an updated 15" laptop in the vein of the G750?

I'm really hoping for a 15" ROG laptop with Windows 8 and a touchscreen. Thanks.

Hey, I have a Z77 Sabertooth, and I'm really hoping to make use of the Thunderbolt expansion header. Can you tell me what the ETA on the Thunderbolt card is? It seems to have fallen off the face of the earth.

Thanks for the AMA!

afaik, asus was the first brand to build multicore enhancement into their motherboards. my questions are about m.c.e.

how safe and stable are the m.c.e.-overclocked cpus?

will m.c.e. be effective with non-k core i5 and i7 cpus in z87 motherboards? i read in a techreport.com article that intel may have removed partial overclockability from non-k core i5 cpus.

is it possible to enable m.c.e. in motherboards with chipsets other than z87 or z77?

even though intel disables bclk overclocking for non-k haswell core cpus, will it be possible to enable it through uefi in z87 motherboards (for non-k core i5/i3 cpus)?

thanks for doing the a.m.a. :)

Currently for the US market we do not have plans to release a 7990. As you may be aware we produced our own solution which was faster and quieter, the ARES II was a ultra high end performance oriented sku that due to the complex design and yield was limited in production quantity. With that in mind you can rest assured our team is always looking at pushing the envelope in designs on the GPU front.

Currently there are no plans to refresh the designs of our 7970 DCII or our 7970 Matrix. The cooling and acoustics are very important for this GPU we want to ensure a consistent cool and quiet experience.

We have no plans to manufacture or produce power supplies. We have extensive partnerships with leading PSU vendors and feel they offer outstanding solutions currently.
