[SOLVED] ASRock B460M-ITX/ac with M.2 and 4x SSD

Hello good people,

from what I see on ASRock web page I'm not entirely sure if the B460M-ITX/ac motherboard supports 4X SATA III and an M.2 NVMe in paralel? I understand that I can have a total of 4 SATA III devices, so if I put one in M.2 slot, the slot 3 is then occupied. But does the same go for NVMe?

Also, if anyone has an alternative, I'll be happy to hear. I plan to make a small media server with B460M-ITX/ac, i3-10100, OS on M.2 and 4xSATA III for all the media. I'll rune Open Media Vault on it and in containers Emby/Plex and Home Assistant. Currently I'm runing this setup on virtual machine and I don't see any high CPU loads nonetheless, I think going forward with i3-10100 instead of J5040-ITX for example would cover any unexpected CPU demands.

Solution
https://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/B460M-ITXac/#Specification

------------------------
  • 4 x SATA3 6.0 Gb/s Connectors, support RAID (RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 10, Intel® Rapid Storage Technology 17), NCQ, AHCI and Hot Plug*
  • 1 x Ultra M.2 Socket (M2_1), supports M Key type 2280 M.2 SATA3 6.0 Gb/s module and M.2 PCI Express module up to Gen3 x4 (32 Gb/s)

*If M2_1 is occupied by a SATA-type M.2 device, SATA3_0 will be disabled.
-----------------------

This depends on what type of M.2 drive.
A NVMe M.2, such as a 970 EVO or Crucial P2, you can use all 4 SATA ports.
A SATA III M.3 drive, such as a 860 EVO or Crucial MX500, the SATA 0 port on the motherboard will be diabled.

Solution
This is how I understood it as well, if M.2 connector is occupied by a NVMe drive then all 4 SATA ports can be used.

But better safe than sorry; thank you very much for the help!
