Question ASRock beta BIOS downgrade ?

BIOS options for ASRock Fatal1ty Z370 Professional Gaming i7 list every release in the v4.xx as versions one can not downgrade.

Considering one could face some issues after upgrade I am somewhat reluctant to go from 3.40. There is however a beta version, 4.20B[Beta], that seems to not have this restriction.

Question is if this is a fluke or a reality. Have looked around and found some hints in regards to the non-beta versions. Partially summarized by this reply:

Summarized as:

Has anyone successfully downgraded bios on ASRock?

Unfortunately, that is impossible (3.2 to 1.8). ASRock deliberately blocked downgrading
beyond that point because it would brick the board (make it unusable).
  • I would like to test out v4.xx as I have issues with 32GB RAM modules. Have used them for a long time, but there is some stability issues.
The Memory QVL does not list any 32GB modules (at most 16GB). Not sure if that is a HW limitation issue or a limitation of information due to aging. Testing out v4+ would be on the path to figure out things in practice.
  • I have also read, but do not recall where, that my CPU "require" v4.00, albeit it has worked fine for years on v3.40.
  • I have also tested 16+64 = 82GB RAM and it "works" and guess that has to do with the CPU support of 128GB RAM and my underlying hope is that I can do exactly that. None the less I could either keep my 2x32GB or do a new purchase of 4x16GB.
Specks:

Motherboard: ASRock – Fatal1ty Z370 Professional Gaming i7
CPU : Intel Core i9-9900K
BIOS : P3.40

The core question is if v4.20B can be downgraded given I encounter some foobar with it.

(Also tried to post on ASRocks own forum but they nuked my account and deleted the question. (OK; irrelevant but sad.))

Typically, users should only install a beta version if it solves a specific issue (like the one the beta "fixes"). Reliance on the last, fully released, version should suffice.

Try the regular 4.20 release to see if it meets your experimentation needs.

Sure, but the question is if the beta, 4.20, can be downgraded to 3.40.

If I "try" the regular 4.20 there is no way back. There could be an unforeseen issue with 4.00+.

3.40 can go back to any prior version.
4.00 can not go back to 3.40 (or earlier)
4.10 can not go back to 4.00 (or earlier)
4.20 can not go back to 4.10 (or earlier)
  • I have 3.40 – can be downgraded to all previous versions.
  • If I install 4.00+ –I can never go back to 3.40 or earlier versions.
  • The 4.20 Beta could be a loophole.
