Does anyone know what this means? I tried checking the manual but there isn't anything I could find that specified beep codes. Googling this said something about system timer, but what I don't get is on the very first boot I didn't hear these beeps (freshly installed motherboard/CPU/RAM, reused old components for GPU, HDD, PSU etc.). However on subsequent boots (and still continues now) I hear 4 short beeps. There doesn't seem to be any issue with the hardware itself, as the system is running fine (Ubuntu server). Could someone help me diagnose this?

4 beeps indicate a ram module problem:

1. put 1 stick of ram in slot 1, make sure your mobo is not too tight on the mounting pegs of the case.
2. Make sure the video card is screwed in properly, not STIFF tight but just enough where it fits snuggly.
Please turn on the pc and plug in the keyboard
3. If it doesn't come on, check the next ram module until you rule out all of them may not work with the mobo.

Since you said this is "used" ram from an old build I am going to guess right and say the ram is not compatible.

:/

Do me a huge favor please visit asrock website for that mobo, find the ram/module compatibility sheet.
Look at your ram model number and find it on the sheet with voltages.
If you DO NOT find it, find a compatible set of ram that will work as asrock suggets.

Four short beeps usually indicate a system timer failure, often related to the motherboard or RAM. Since your system runs fine, it could be a false alarm or a minor incompatibility. Try reseating the RAM and updating your BIOS to the latest version. If the issue persists, check your motherboard’s official support page for specific beep codes.
