Assassins creed unity laggy as hell

i recently purchased Assassins Creed unity but i can't seem to play it at all!
it loads all fine untill it reaches the main menu and i can't even get past it without it lagging on me so bad!

Can anyone please help me as to why this might be?
or help me out in putting the game onto the lowest settings? not to sure how to do that

Processor : Intel Core i5-2400 CPU @3.10GHz

Graphics card : AMD Radeon HD 5450

RAM : Kingston hyper fury X 2x 4GB sticks

id say it's due to bad optimization from ubisoft. after all it was pretty badly ported to pc. for low settings there should be settings tab in the main menu which should open menu that has graphics quality tab from there just turn everything off or the minimal and see if it works

yeah i've been reading a lot how bad Unity is on PC i wish i knew all of this before i bought it

You'll need at least a GTX 970 to get acceptable performance in this game on high settings or above.

you could get the gtx 960 (4g if possible) or the r9 380 both should run the game pretty ok

A GTX 960 is about on par with a GTX 680, which is the minimum required GPU. I'm quite surprised that your current GPU could even boot the game at all. The game is NVIDIA optimized, so even an R9-380 would suck for this game unless it was patched enough to improve optimization.

Playing Unity on low is sort of pointless because the game looks stunning, that's the appeal of it.

I played in on XBONE and it looked amazing.

Many people out there also have consoles, if you have one and planning on keeping this PC as is i would simply siggest to play AAA games on the console.
