Assign processes to specific core?

Right. I have an AMD Athlon 64 Dual Core 5400+ Black CPU with 8GB RAM running Win7 64 HP. Is there a way to assign processes to run on one core or the other? I didn't feel like reading 81,400 results to my query so forgive me if this has been been answered.

Open up task manager, go to the processes tab, right click on the process, select set affinity.

You can use that to set which core a certain process should run on

Hey thats cool, I'll have to try that for myself. I love learning from other peoples questions!

you really shouldn't need to do this though.

It is useful for certain scenarios, i did it last summer when i had a long drawn out matlab program running, limiting it to 2 cores rather than letting it do 30% across all 4 hurt its performance some, but it let me lock TF2 to the other two so i could do something fun while i waited all night for it to spit out an answer, but for normal applications unless you want to give a single application priority over another it is best to just let windows assign them to their cores.
