ASUS A7N8X RAM SPEED

TIA to any help. I have an asus a7n8x with 2600+ t-bird processor with 2
512 meg samsung ram modules. If I run the ram at 200 no problems. If I
up the FSB to 400 (400X11.5)2300 I have to clock the ram at 83%(166) or
it will not post. I have tried increasing voltage to ram but it doesn't
help. I assume that if I don't overclock the processor by increasing the
FSB that the ram doesn't run at 200 even if it posts that way, but as
soon as I up the FSB that the ram won't handle the increase.

This will most definately be your ram timings. Do something a little more
relaxed. Ive forgotten my timings, but I'm running at 2.2ghz with the same
setup, but using 1gb corsair VS. By the way, its not 400x11.5 as that would
result in 4.6ghz 😉 your FSB should be at 200 which has an effective rate of
400 - its just doubled obviously. If its stable at 166 (83%) then I can only
say it suggests your OC and ram timings. I'd relax the OC to 2.2ghz and up
the ram to 100% - or just relax ram timings.

Thanks for your advice. I have tried both of your suggestions already
with no luck. Board will simply not POST if FSB is 200 with ram at 100%.
The sticks are pc3200 & should work this way. I can only assume the ram
rating is over stated or the m-board is pickey.

Have you set the AGP Frequency under the Advanced Settings to 66MHz as
opposed to the default of Auto. I had this problem on my A7N8X-Dlx
board when I attempted to bump FSB to 200MHz from 166. Under the Auto
setting the AGP Bus exceeded what the card could handle when the FSB was
bumped up. Locking it at 66MHz solved it out. HTH.
