Asus A7S 333 question (kind of dumb)

Guys I was once computer literate but went back to grad school for a few years and have come out being computer dumb. Anyway, I have an Asus A7S333 motherboard which uses the Athlon XP processors. Is this compatable with all high end Athlon processors currently on the market?

For instance could I obtain an Athlon 3000 XP for it? Or would I be limited to an Athlon 2800 XP with the 333fsb? I have never seen any 3000 XP's with 333fsb for sale, or have I? ? ?

Anyway I know its a basic question, but I had to ask. I'm not planning on actually paying 500 dollars for a new CPU. But I realize that at some point in the future that 500 dollar CPU will be $120 bucks. I want to know how far this mobo will take me.

Thank you

If you installed any of the new Athlon XP CPUs into that mobo, it would work, but you was have an unfortunate speed bottleneck. The mobo has a 266MHz front-side bus and the latest AMD's are 333MHz. Check out the nForce2 mobos.

I don't really see spending hard cash on another motherboard just to get a few extra FPS out of the Athlon XP series. I'm just trying to figure out what the "max" CPU is that I wll be able to put on THIS system.

When I do upgrade motherboards it will be part of a complete new system built around the upcoming K8 chipset with the Hammer processor.

No problem. It will support all of the current Athlon XP's.
