Hi,

I'm a bit of a rookie here and made a rookie mistake. My Asus Vivo M42 got a nasty rootkit virus, had to reset everything. Didnt realize there was a partition ready to go so I made a USB bootdisk and adjusted the settings to what I thought was correct, now the com[puter wont display but it turns on. No sounds, no mechanical issue, I just need to somehow change this back to factory settings or change the setting for the display to show again. Troubleshooted all night and I do know I can disconnect the bios battery and plug it back in, wondering if theres a way to do something like this without having to take apart the computer

Solution
Hello... You should do a CMOS reset... wanna try that? B O ...Just need to get a cover open on your case... look in your MB Box if there is not a jumper resting already on your MB pins.

Take your time here and be slow and careful to your MB... look in your MB manual/Pdf for pictures and location of the SW or pins. B )
1) un-plug PS from wall.
2) remove MB battery
3) place jumper pins OR push switch on MB to clear the capacitors... for ~2 mins
4) remove Jumper or switch connection.
5) re-install battery
6) plug monitor into the MB or video card output. (if you have a MB/CPU GPU, it will default to them, after a CMOS clear)
7) plug in PS to wall
8) Boot computer.

Hello... No... that chip needs to be cleared manually.... Once you do it... you'll feel like a Pro... and one more step too becoming a master B D

Most people have had a hard time finding a jumper or switch... you might have to take a "larger leap of faith" and use the tip of small screw driver.
