Hi. I've been struggling with trying to get my computer to load windows 7 to a raid 0 array.

Specs:
AMD FX-9590
Asus Crosshair Formula Z
16GB RAM
Gigabyte GTX 970's in SLI
2 Crucial M100 256GB SSD's
2 Corsair Neutron 120GB SSD's

I have changed sata config to raid which changes both amd and asmedia controllers. Then I set up raid 0 array (couldn't get asmedia controller ports to ever recognize ssds in raid configurator) so it was on the amd sata controller. Booted from windows dvd. Installed amd and asmedia sata drivers. Windows recognized the raid 0 array. Installed windows to raid array. When windows was done installing, and automatically restarts, it get's to the twisting colored dots screen but then blue screens and restarts. I've tried many different sets of ssds, all of which do the same thing. I've tried plugging in ssds to other computers via usb adapter to see what's on them. One has "stuff" on it and the other seems like it has nothing on it. If I try anything with the "empty" one, it is not recognized in bois or windows install until I format it on another computer..

Frustrated.. Please HELP! Is there a setting that I don't know about or something I'm missing? Or, am does it sound like I'm doing things right but it just won't work?

Solution

Sorry but No it does not.
The Setting under the South Bridges Sata Port only covers the AMD ports and ports 5&6 can be configured separately from ports 1 thru 4.

The AsMedia controller is configured under Onboard Devices and does not support raid at all.

Connect the two ssd to AMD ports 1 + 2. Connect any optical drives to ports 5 and/or 6.
Power on & enter the bios and set the Sata ports to enabled with ports 1-4 as raid and ports 5-6 as ahci.
Disable the asmedia ports.
Enable CSM
Set the Boot control to uefi and legacy mode, storage devices to both, then set the raid as the primary boot device.
make any other changes you need then save and...
One has "stuff" on it and the other seems like it has nothing on it.
Which is which one raid?

And other Qs
1) Do you do the clean installation?
2) Do you connect all the SSDs during the installation? If you try to install the win7 into the good one, also you connect the " empty stuff " one too, because the pc does not recognize it, then you will have the problem. Also do you read the manual page 5-2 ( chapter5).
3) Which raid do you plug into the 1st SATA port? because the PC usually will boot from the 1st SATA port by default. Also make sure you set the right boot order. Also do you follow the step by step from the manual page 5-6 (chapter5) to set up the raid driver disk ?

Add one more Q, what PSU do you use?

watch the bottom of your screen for the message to press Ctrl+h to enter the raid bios and press it when you see it.
In the raid bios select option 2 to define a new LD
Set raid to 0, 64k clusters, writethru cache.
Place a Y next to the drive to use in the raid.
Press Ctrl+Y to save
Enter a name for the array
Press Crtl+Y to save again and then again to confirm. (ALL DATA WILL BE DELETED ON THE DRIVES IN THE ARRAY)

Now your array is ready.
Insert your windows install media and reboot to it. Windows has the amd raid drivers built in. Just select the named array as the place where you want to install windows to.
