Hello, I have a problem. I have a montech sky two case for my new build. I can't fit my msi gtx 1060 6gb in the new case. The metal plate thing at the back where the ports are is too long, it hits the back of the case and stops me slotting the gpu all the way into the slot. Not sure what to do other than trying to cut it with a hacksaw, my cpu has no integrated graphics so I need the gpu. Any ideas?

Photos illustrating your problem would help.

But it sounds like you did not install standoffs before placing motherboard into the case.
That does seem the most sensible explanation although you would expect the rear IO to have an issue as well.

I have had tight fits before where the gpu rear shield is catching the motherboard which may feel like it is bottoming out.

Hopefully photos can clarify.

Yeah, definitely sounds like they didn't install the stand offs, because that case model is a mid tower with 400mm length max.

My guess is they screwed the board into the case without the stand offs which means the gpu and i/o shield would never fit or line up properly.

@mrsmithjr The case should have come with hardware. The stand offs look like screws that have a top you can screw in the motherboard screws, and are usually either brass, or steel/aluminum painted black or other colors. You will need pliers or a nut driver to screw them in to the corresponding screw holes to the screw holes on your motherboard.

You also need to "dry fit" the screws to make sure you use the correct screws for those standoffs, or it can cross thread with the wrong screws or not fit in the threads properly. '6-32' screws with a "coarse" threading are the kind used on most standoffs and 3.5" hard drives, while 'M3' screws have a finer threading and are usually used on installing a 2.5" SATA SSD/HDD.

Thanks for all the info guys, it was actually my fault that it wasn't fitting. The gpu backplate was sliding down outside the case (where the slot covers are) instead of behind the motherboard which was preventing it going down all the way. I didn't know it was suppose to slide behind the motherboard, oops 🙄

No problem. That is probably the best situation to be honest as it means you dont have to remove motherboard etc.
