ASUS DDNS NAT Issue

I'm trying to set up an ASUS RT-AC66U router for DDNS, to eventually work with Wake On Lan. I used to have a modem/router combo that I returned to my ISP (Suddenlink) for a modem, so now i have a rented modem and my own router. I went to the router's GUI and above DDNS it says "The wireless router currently uses a private WAN IP address. This router may be in the multiple-NAT environment and DDNS service cannot work in this environment."

I went to cmd and my ip is private showing as 192.168 etc, I've been reading up on NAT and I'm thinking maybe the ARRIS modem is causing issues its is a SB6183, I've asked Suddenlink to bridge it and they can't. I went into the modem's GUI and I can't seem to find anything to turn off NAT. I hope someone can help me figure out this mess, I work in I.T. but this networking stuff is confusing.

Thanks
Alex

This means that your modem is already working in NAT.
Enable a firewall of a PC, connect it in place of the router (that is, cable from modem -> PC), and check again the IP address. If you still get 192.168.xxx.yyy, your modem is set up for NAT, and you have to switch it in "bridge" mode. Check with your ISP.

Ok so I took the router off the network and directly connected the modem to the PC, it now shows a public IP (50. 27 etc). What should I try next, I tried disabling NAT in the router but it didn't seem to do anything, the message is still there
