some of you here heavily confuse single precision TerraFLOPS with double (or multiple, or vector) precision TF. Your HD 5850 may do 2.09TF of simple precision. But only 480TF of double precision. Generally the speed gets lower exponentially when you increase the precision. For quad, it has to be emulated in software and is 8 times slower. And your famous HD-bla-bla is certainly not able of multiple precision or vector computing, not talking about CUDA-enabled. For games, single prec is good. For scientific or medical application is not. Best game cards suck at multiple precision, or complex calculus necessary in physics, math, molecular simulation, etc...
