Asus GTX 1070 Strix OC 8Gb - Temps are suddenly 5-10+c higher

So I'm extremely baffled right now.

So over a month ago, I built my first PC.

i7 6800k
X99-A II
4x8Gb Corsair LED 2666Mhz
Asus GTX 1070 Strix O8G
EVGA G2 650W PSU
Samsung SM961 m.2
Samsung 850 Evo

Anyway, this week I bought Overwatch and found my temperatures were quite high, reaching 80c easily... Thought it was just the game thats the issue. Tried other games, Far Cry 3, boom 80c easily. Unigine valley was easily reaching 80c also..

Now the issue here is; I haven't touched any of my OC settings, even stock settings temps were roughly 5c hotter..

So I've done some stress testing, all exact same as I did after my first build, I would like to note that my temps for my highest possible OC in valley/heaven was around 75c. I'm currently hitting 83-85c with my max OC settings.

What's change on my end, I replaced the 3x120mm stock NZXT case fans for 2x140mm Noctua NF-A14s. This is the only change I'm aware of. There is no way that the 3 stock fans were cooling my gpu by 10c+ over 2x140mm Noctua fans? That's nuts surely? My room temperature never changes much. Fans are clean, filters are clean... I have no idea why suddenly my GPU i so much hotter? I've even used the older driver and there is no change as this happened shortly after GeForc Experience updated the driver for me.

The problem is, if you want good temps you either need high end "quiet running" fans that run high RPM with a good CFM, but are tolerable to you, or you just have to deal with the jet engine in your ear to bring the temps to a reasonable level. You are going to have to compromise somewhere. Anything over 80c may be causing damage to the chip itself, I would highly recommend you bring it back. Just a personal recommendation.

The fans on the card can run as fast as they want, but if the case isn't pushing the air out, the air is being heated up, pushed out, and sucked right back into the card.

To clarify, if you're asking more than the card can do, it will max out and that requires a lot of power. The power therefore generates heat. If...

Unfortunately you can't just look at size of the fans. It looks like your fans did drop the case's total cfm by 20, but we're talking the difference between 180 and 160, so it's not much, however that's just fan design air flow. You also have to take into account some reduction in air flow caused by things inhibiting the airflow inside of the case (air filters and other plastic components are the major ones). Other things that could have dropped your cases air flow is just a dusty filter.

Try cleaning out any air filters you have in the case, make sure there's not a lot of stuff blocking the suction or discharge of the case and if that fails, go into your BIOS and look at individual fan controls and make sure that the new fans are set to operate at max RPM's. There's a slight chance that they could be only spinning at 50%.

My Noctuas spin at 1k RPM as thats as loud as I'd like meanwhile my 3x120mm span at around 700 rpm for same purpose.

I made sure to keep airflow path clear as possible, only ting truly in the way is my h100i v2 but that hasnt moved for either set of fans. My 140mm Corsair ML140 exhaust is at 50% as noise is too much when higher. I've been messing with fan control in bios since day 1 so I know exactly how fast each fan spins

Today im going to switch back to 3x120mm and see if temps are still crazy high

Well there is an update, I took out my gpu to inspect if there was any fan issues or damage, after putting it back in I ran a Unigine Heaven benchmark again, left it for 20 minutes, came back 78c was the max temp with my max overclock at 57% fan speed. Even Overwatch capped at 78c with the max oc too compared to previous temp of 85c in overwatch. So there is a small posibility that the gpu may have become ever so slightly nudged or dislodged in socket when I replaced my case fans.

However, Far Cry 3 is still reaching 80c+.. Little confused still. The problem is that after 60% fan speed the noise becomes a bit much..

just shocked that a 1070 can reach 80c playing such an old game.. I don't know if it's because I'm gaming at 1440p with high/ultra settings?
