If they design it to use parts made on a 40nm, or even 32nm if they release it a little later, process then it should be pretty cheap to make a system much more powerful than the Wii, maybe even the 360, and still be able to sell it at the price of the Wii or even a little cheaper. If Asus is serious about this then there is one developer question they need to answer right now

Where's my dev kit!!!!!!!! 😀.

First thing I would code for that thing, pong, and then Tetris ^_^. Seriously though this could be interesting and I would like to see a dev kit.

How about go after all of them... Make a system that plays PC, 360 and PS3 games. Not putting all their chickens/eggs in one basket, then they will have I'm not sure how many chickens and eggs.

[citation][nom]Eccentric909[/nom]Metroid is made by Nintendo, first party if I recall correctly. Also, have you ever played "No More Heroes"? Perfect example of an awesome 3rd party Wii game. Unfortunately, they are few and far between.[/citation]
Metroid is made by Retro Studios, a second party to Nintendo.

[citation][nom]gravionGR[/nom]It seemed ludicrous that Sony would try to enter the console market, dominated by Nintendo and Sega. .[/citation]
Go back further then that, nintendo enetring the console market when Atari was king?

If M$ and Sony could do it, no reason why Asus couldn't do it. M$ and Sony upon their announcement of getting into the console world... everyone laughed. Nobody could beat Nintendo, Sega... and today M$ and Sony are the leaders. Ok ok... Nintendo is here with the Wii but bottomline M$ and Sony managed to become players.

So I think this is BS. Why have we not heard of this before? Who in there right mind builds a console without consulting developers on what hardware features they want to see?
Why build a machine with NO software support. This is either the biggest boneheaded hardware decision I've ever heard of or a complete load of horse$4!7 !

I vote for #2 😉

The Xbox is has never posted a single profitable quarter ever...

If Asus could stand losing a few billion dollars, then sure.

MS is trying to build a brand, so that when you buy a product, it will be an MS one because they all integrate.

They should team up with Steam/Valve. And a console that can run a lot of PC games (via WinXP/Vista emulation) is actually a good idea. I'd like to see what they have up their sleeves. Imagine a stripped version of a window OS that has only what the games need to run, powerful CPU, powerful graphics, everything the same and universal to make production costs low. I wonder how they would go about doing something like this. Then Valve and others can start developing games for the platform, just like console games. I really am intrigued now ....
