Hi! Ive been looking at the forums searching for a similar issue. My asus x550l doesnt display anything when i turn the power on. The hdd light is blinking. The mouse only lights up a few seconds then nothing. It takes ages until it gets to the logo. But when it does, startup is fast. Once the laptop is on it is working well.

Doing the hold down the power button does nothing. I havent opened up the laptop as i have no experience with it. I also did a factory reset and checked the hdd for errors and found none. Is this a software or hardware issue?

Any input would be really appreciated.

What kind of shape is the battery and charger in? If you have a bad battery or the charger is failing, the laptop may run in a reduced power mode which essentially cause the CPU to run at it's lowest frequency. You can check with CPU-Z to determine what it's running at. This may explain the long boot up time with all the programs and drivers trying to load.
So its blank until windows starts to load? it sounds like it could be either. Before windows its checking your hardware and waiting for it to start

have you tried updating drivers? or the bios? it sounds like its waiting for something to respond and it takes ages.

I can't find an asus x550l, I can find an x550LA, but not just an L

Hi thanks for the response. Its an x550LN to be precise. Ive reset the windows havent tried updating the drivers yet. I can try doing that. And yes its just blank for a very long time until windows starts to load. Im not sure how to update the bios though.

there are only 3 win 10 drivers: https://www.asus.com/support/Download/3/516/0/13/nSWs93EF2BRr9DaV/45/

I can't see a bios there at all.

I would run a program like driver Booster to grab all the updated intel and realtek drivers as there are newer available than what Asus has on web site.

Alright ill do just that thank you. I really dont know what happened. It just started being this way. Hoping for the best. :)

so i went ahead and updated my drivers. Did a restart and its still the same thing. Im currently waiting for it to start windows as im posting it. So is it safe to say its a hardware issue? Which part could it possibly be?

when you get into windows, look in the device manager and see if any unknowns there.

most of the fixes are for slow windows start, but that isn't your problem, yours is before windows starts. Drivers can fix that but it appears you are right about it being hardware, I am just not sure what hardware

from the desktop, select start menu, open the power menu, hold down shift and hit restart
this loads advanced start up (hopefully right away and not in an hour)
select troubleshoot/advanced/start up repair - -this will scan files and maybe fix why it takes an hour to boot. it will ask for your logon.

i don't know that much about laptops, if this were a pc i would get you to test the ram using http://www.memtest86.com/ and the hard drives using http://crystalmark.info/download/index-e.html as we need to figure out what it isn't before we can work out what it is.

So I check the hard drives using crystaldiskinfo and I got a Caution on C5: Current Pending Sector Count. So does this mean that it's my hard drive that's causing the long start up?

Alright. I guess I'll go ahead and make a replacement. Thank you for the help. I know this is a bit OT now but any advise on how to transfer the operating system into the SSD?

You can use cloning software but i would suggest a fresh install as its less inclined to break. Sometimes cloning software misses the boot partition meaning new install doesn't boot.

Clean install is better, especially if last build was an upgrade.

Win 10 should auto activate itself when installed, you don't need the licence key as Microsoft know that laptop had win 10 on it already.

You can download your own win 10 installer from here: Win 10 media creation tool. Use that to make a Win 10 USB or DVD. Microsoft give installer away, its the licence that isn't free. You fine with that part.

Okay great! Thanks for the input. I'll go ahead and grab a new disk for my laptop and see how it goes. I'll come back with the results. :)

Okay so I changed the hdd and its still the same. It really takes a long time for it to go to the asus logo and windows. Once it gets to the asus logo everything boots fast. Tried having my laptop cleaned up and all and still no sucess. Any additional thoughts on this?

I'll try to check that. Thanks for the tip. I honestly don't think it's a bad battery though. I could be wrong.
