Asus M2N-E still going strong, wondering how much longer... :)

Hey there,

Just came across a post on here about this board but he post was almost a year old so I figured time for a new post

So I'm still using this great board which was an Open Box from the Egg purchased on 7/9/2007!

It's kitted out like this:

AMD Phenom II X4 925 (2.8Ghz) w/8MB L3 Cache
8GB Corsair DDR2 CM2X2048-6400
ATI Radeon HD 5450
2x1TB Samsung HD103SJ Hard Drives
PLANAR PX2710MW 27" LCD Monitor
Logitech Illuminated Keyboard & M570 trackball
Asus Bluetooth dongle for Motorola S305 Headset

Wrapped up in a LIAN LI PC-60APLUSII Case
And protected by a APC UPS

I replaced the power supply as a precaution around a year and a half ago with a newer 500W one I had laying around as a spare. Nothing fancy COOLER MASTER Elite 460W. That was when I updated the CPU/memory. It must be on its 3rd or 4th CPU by now!!

Since I just installed Windows 7 a fresh for the first time since when it came out in 09, everything is running sweetly.

It runs fast enough for most everything including some Video editing!
Processor and Memory are 7.2 and 7.3 out of 7.9 on the Windows Experience Index Score!

Edit: Funny thing is the biggest expense over the years has definitely been Logitech keyboards and Mice/Trackballs, cost way more than processors...since CPU's get resold!

Just wondering how long I can keep this puppy going?

I had a 1GHz P3 with ASUS CUSL2 motherboard running as a backup/guest PC for 12 years. Only reason I am not using it anymore is because I now have a spare C2D-E8400 which I had used as my main PC for 5 years. Had 16GB DDR2 been affordable, I would probably have kept my C2D for 2-3 years longer.

So as roll said, computers are good for however long they can keep you happy and are cost-effective to run, upgrade and repair.

It is a lot like cars. Good as long as you are happy with them and only minor repairs with standard maintenance are required to keep it going.
