Hi, I have a question about the ASUS M2NPV-VM mATX motherboard. I got one about/less than a month ago (has since been returned, explained below) for a new build. I installed everything, updated the BIOS to v405 (latest that I'm aware of for this mobo), installed Windows, installed all of the drivers that came with the pack-in CD, and everything looked to be sweet, except... none of the USB or Firewire ports worked - even the ones soldered onto the motherboard.

The obvious:

I'm certain I installed everything correctly - everything else works fine.

All other parts are fine - most of them tested in another computer.

I had the latest BIOS (v405).

I installed all of the chipset drivers.

Both USB and Firewire are enabled in the BIOS.

I properly grounded myself periodically and before touching anything.

The observed:

Windows apparently is able to detect the USB and Firewire controllers, and the USB ports do provide power (my mouse lights up, but doesn't do anything beyond that) but say that the firmware cannot be found for either, so it can't/won't install drivers for them.

Nowhere on ASUS's site (that I could find) is there any mention of user-installed firmware or drivers for the controllers.

So...

I returned the motherboard based on the assumption that either the BIOS was crap (as the previous versions were, according to some user reviews) or I got a dud. However, I want to be sure, as I'm finding myself not being able to find a comparable board for my usage purposes, and am tempted to bite the bullet and get another one.

Has anyone else that owns an ASUS M2NPV-VM or any other board experienced something like this before? If so, is the board defective, or is there some way to get the USB and Firewire working?

Thanks.

Just dont buy Asus Motherboards... Problem solved.

Sound like you got a bad motherboard, which is kinda ironic, because all Asus MoBos are bad... What I ment was that your bad Asus was either defective or what you where plugging into it was defective.

Next time try MSI or Gigabyte. Doesnt ensure that the device will be defective free, just will ensure that you dont get screwed in 6 months when Asus stops supporting your Motherboard cause they are selling a replacement. Or that you are able to get in touch with some sort of reasonable tech support. Or that you have a memory supported list that includes more then 5 items. Or that.... well Im getting tired here.
