ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3 (Am3+) supports am2/am3 cpus?

I ve been looking at this moyherboard spec sheet and cpu support list, and there is a lot of phenom ii x4s in there.
I thought those were am2/am3 socket cpus, and that AM3+ socket broke backwards compatibility.

So what is the deal with this mobo? Will am2/am3 cpus work in it?
