I have recently purchased a asus maximus vii formulae motherboard ,intel i7 4790k.But I am confused with qvl list of asus.my mind wants to go for Gskill Trident X 16GB. but which TridentX will support my mobo.also 4*4 is good or 8*2

I see no reason why it would not work in your system. My ram isn't on my QVL and it works fine. With XMP as well there's usually even less to worry about.

Any of the Tridents will be fine with your combo, as SR-71 said, 2x8GB would be better than 4x4GB, it's less stress on the MC, the 2400 is a great set
