Not really but that motherboard is for Haswell cpu socket 1150. Your current motherboard is socket 1155. if you plan to keep the motherboard, you need a socket 1155 cpu like i5 3570k.

Asus Maximus VII Hero is Z97. You want a Z77. Your motherboard is fine really and so is your cpu.
I would think that no, your going to need to buy a proc and mainboard to do that upgrade as your current proc is a lga1155 socket and the new motherboard proc would be a lga1150 socket. Your at least in for a $450 upgrade at that point and the performance different from the generations of processors is ~15% at best assuming equal quality processors. Your games are probably not cpu constrained atm anyways due to your gtx 970 being a decent card.
I would suggest you buy a second GTX 970 card and sli them at a lower cost than the motherboard and processor but the asrock z77 pro 3 is not capable of sli as the second pci express slot is only rated at 4x and not 8x. So possible upgrades which could help would be more ram if your below 8gb atm.
