hey guys , I am looking for a new CPU for my Asus P5B Delux Wi/Fi Mobo its a socket 775, my E6300 is dying , and I need a new one...... I downloaded the latest BIOS 1236 and it says Support new CPUs. I know E6300 is 65nm and E8500 is 45nm , I am not sure if it will work ...... so can you guys please confirm if E8500 will work on my mobo thanx

Doesn't asus' website have a cpu compatibility chart for you MB?

I bought E8500 today , I loaded BIOS to default setting before I took E6300 out and put E8500 out ......... sadly it didnt boot ..... no beep sound from mobo..... I think my mobo is crapping out because my computer was playing up , crashing , slow weird 3d performance , some time computer wont boot .... and so far I have replaced gfx to 4870x2 , PSU to enermax galaxie 1000w , and CPU to E8500 , and still wont WORK !!!

I'm having the exact same issue with the E8500 and the P5B Deluxe. It shows the P5B post but won't boot and won't let you enter the bios. I've upgraded to the latest 1236 BIOS as well. Anyone else have a fix? I put in my old 6600 chip and it works fine so I know the mobo is working good. Any ideas?

First of all e8500 will require ram of 667mhz or higher.

Second the P5B deluxe only supports 1066mhz, the 1333mhz cpus have been enabled by beta bios's however, this is running the board overclocked so you wont get much help from ASUS as its not offical.

Have you tried clearing the CMOS? have you tried setting RAM at 667mhz with yout e6600 installed then changing CPU's

You probably need the 1237 beta bios. It fixes a problem where the P5B Deluxe with 45nm processors hang on boot with some memory configurations (usually with more than 2GB installed).

Yeah your motherboard could be on the way out, but I read on a similar thread over on xtremsystems that the p5b's have an issue with odd multipliers like your 8500 has (9.5 i believe?). If you can get into the bios try setting the multiplier to 9 or the next full number. The 45nm core 2's are a bit different from the 65nm ones internally and the older mobos have some issues with using them without bios updates and certain bios tweaks. Like for instance 45nm quads on that mobo require the second highest north bridge voltage setting in the bios to get through orthos even at stock speeds 🙁 that sucks cos ive got the exact same motherboard as you with an e6300 and in light of that info my only upgrade path is either a q6600 or an e8600 (for the 10x multiplier and th 450fsb limit on the p5b deluxe). You might also want to push the fsb termination and northbridge voltages up temporarily to see if that'll make the system boot. Do post back with your results cos this directly affects me in about 6months when i move to vista 64, 4gb and an e8600. Hope that helped at all.

Cheers

Hello guys, yesterday I put new E8400 in my P5B Deluxe mobo and -
it was not able to boot. Before there was E6750, ran well with some 1333 MHz BIOS. So I reflashed bios to 1236. With my mem config, again, did not boot (mem test did not pass). So I searched over the internet and found there exists 1237 BIOS. BUT ASUS DOES NOT OFFER IT ON ITS WEBSITE.. Thank you ASUS, we have to find it somewhere else....
So maybe you will appreciate this

Runs well now also with 2x 2GB RAM + 2x 1GB RAM = 6 GB. With 1236 you can only go with ONE slot, means 2 GB max.

But not sure if can handle to solve the E8500 multiplier issue.
