Only today i noticed that Asus P5K motherboard allows 8GB memory configured as 4x 2GB-DDR2.

My question is if the full 8GB can only be used by 64bit OSes or the motherboard (and its drivers) allow 32bit OSes to reach 8GB memory somehow?

Thanks.

You will need 64-bit os

Does anyone know if I can run 32-Bit applications on 64?

I'm building this new PC. I already bought the Quad-Core 6600 2.4ghz processor. I didn't buy anything else yet.

My main uses of the system will be DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink as well as some photo editing/video editing, and MAME.

How do you like the P5K? I notice there's different models on ZipZoomFly.. SE, WS, etc. is it worth me getting a certain model? Should I go for the one that says will handle 1333mhz FSB as opposed to 1066?

yes, get the one that says it can handle 1333fsb, it supports th new processors. And some 32 bit applications will work in vista 64 i think, but dont quote me on that :)
the p5k's are good motherboards, there Asus :)

I've been using ASUS for many years now and love them. My only gripe is their website is always slow for me.

I did look up and it appears some 32 bit apps will run on 64 bit, but not take advantage of the additional memory and what not. Photoshop I know will. I'll have to check the DVD Shrink forums to see what they said.

Thanks for the advice.. I'll just go for the 1333FSB mobo since it's not much more money.

Has anyone heard if there's a certain revision motherboard I should look for? When I bought my last ASUS I looked for a certain revision because it was more compatable with faster memory.

Should I go for the P5K Deluxe or the lower version? Anyone know the difference? One is $153 and one is $253.

According to my research, P5K-Deluxe has the following: Better cooling, better OC settings, raid and Wi-Fi.

If you do not plan on using Raid and Wi-Fi and you plan to OC moderately, is better cooling worth the extra $100?

I went to the store today and I found another P5K, called P5K-Premium. It costs $10 more than the Deluxe.
