Hello.

I have ordered a new computer and have some questions to anybody who have the same specs like me.
My specs is:
Asus P5WD2 Premium i955X
Intel Extreme Edition 840 (3.2 dual-core)
Corsair TWINX1024 8000UL DDR2
Gigabyte GeForce 7800GTX
Thermaltake Silent psu 680W
Cooler Master Wave Master TAC-T01-EK
WD Raptor 74 GB OS disk
5 x Samsung Spinpoint P120S 250GB S-ATA II
Zalman 7700cu CPU cooler

If anybody out there have the same motherboard, cpu and memory, can you share your best settings for your computer.
At what speed do you run your cpu and memory, and what can I do to make this computer as fast as I can without overclocking the system to much. I have only a Zalman 7700cu cooler, and I don't want my CPU to burn up 🙂
But I want the best speed possible for my system.

Thanks for any help.

I have a similar set up. I have found everything set to "Auto" in the mobo's BIOS works fine, with the exception of the RAM. I am using ddr2-800 (pc6400) and I had to manually set the speed, CAS timings and voltage. On "Auto" the board detected the RAM as ddr2-533.

One thing about manually setting your RAM, you will also have to manually set your CPU multiplier. No biggie, just make sure you get it right. For 800mhz FSB, I think it's 200, but check Intel's site to be sure.

Last but not least, one word: HOT! Make sure you have good aftermarket cooling. This board + this CPU is way hot. Stock cooler will not cut it. Don't even bother with ASUS Q-Fan utility. Let those puppies fly! Check out ASUS' forums for the horror stories.

I dont care how hot the CPU gets, its not going to burn up. How many of these CPUs do you hear about burning up? I run mine @ 4.8Ghz about 90% of the time. The other 10% is above 5Ghz.

ASUS P5WD2 Premium
Intel 3.73 EE @ 5.6Ghz
XMS2 DDR2 @ 1180Mhz

Thank you. Since I'm not going to overclock my CPU very much, maybe not at all, I think this will be OK.
As you say, I think very few CPU burns up. I don't think Intel had sold so many CPU if everyone burned up if you not used watercooling.....

About my memory settings: I think I will go for timings 4.0-4-4-8 at DDR2-800 speed. Then I don't have to overclock the CPU, and I think this timings will be good for my system. I hope I get this computer this week, the eta on my memory are 25.8

What are you going to use the system to do? What type of applications? I wouldnt OC the CPU much if any. Wusy does have a point about the CPU throttling down if it gets to hot, but I doubt that you will run into that problem unless you OC the CPU to much. I know of a couple of other guys that have this rig and are well pleased. There is a good thread over at this website going on about this board. One guy named BigStan has a dual core, and he is in this thread. I'm going to use my system to games, DV / movie edit, image edit, normal office use, winrar/winzip etc.
So I'm using very much money without any "real" need to have this computer. But I wanted a dual-core and the "normal" P4 D 840 is still very hard to get here in Norway, so the fastest way to get a dual-core system, and not a 830, was to buy a EE840, but I pay around $600 extra for this CPU.
