I am planning to buy P8H67-M Pro with i5-2500k so I can use on board graphics:

1. Is this board a good choice at this budget (~$120)?
2. Which memory do you suggest? (I plan to install 16GB)
3. Are there any known issues with this board?

thanks,
karthik

Why do you need 16GB of RAM and at the same time are planning to use onboard GPU? Even 8GB is more than enough, usually. More information needed:

1) What will you use the PC for?

2) Are you planning on using a dedicated GPU eventually?

3) Are you planning to overclock?

>> nope..

I suspect the i5-2500K IGPU is better than that. HD Video Editing... a powerful graphics card can speed up the process, as far as I've heard, but I'm really not the person to ask. Let's wait for more replies from people who know more about video editing. What's your total budget, by the way?

I suggest you reconsider.

Yes, the P8H67-M Pro will let you use the onboard graphics, but you will be unable to use the overclocking capabilities of the 2500K.

1) It would be better to look at a Z68 based motherboard which would allow both onboard graphics and "K" overclocking.
Something like this ASRock Z68 PRO3-M should do the job:

2) the 2500K will do well with any compatible ram.
This 16gb kit seems to be the lowest price:

3) The board should be fine, but for the missing OC capability. The 2500K is then a waste, and a cheaper 2500 would be just as good.

I reside in India. The price difference between i5-2500k & plain 2500 is about INR175 ($4). Besides I can make use of better IGPU HD3000. Also I am not a big fan of overclocking, I will let the cpu to run at its optimal speed :).

I am not able to find a cheaper Z68 board here. The price difference between the lowest available Z68 vs H67M-Pro is INR4000 (~$90) 🙁

The P8P67-M series are pretty lame, anyway. It's bad that you have low budget, but if you want to really use the power the 2500K gives you, go for something like P8P67 Pro. Otherwise, as geofelt said, go for a cheaper CPU. And since you said that you won't overclock, anyway, I don't see why you need i5-2500K. Go for the locked version - cheaper and essentially the same, just won't overclock.

Looking at your signature above, would it be safe to assume you live in India? 😀 Because if yes, watch out for prices - might be more than in other countries.

Aha, I was a bit late... you already answered my second question. Since you want IGPU but not overclocking, forget what I said about P67 boards and go for one of H67 boards, just not the "M" series! Z68 boards won't do you any good over P67/H67 unless you use solid state drives.

Now, I know it's a pain in the ass to find realistic prices for PC hardware in India, but you have to try!

just not the "M" series? I was planning to get P8H67M-Pro, which is M series. So any particular reason not to dial M? 😉

I would rather buy a >60GB SSD than using the SSD caching that z68 offers :)

Yes, whenever something new is launched the price is difference between US and India are very high. But the gap is slowly bridged in a 4 - 6 months :)

For instance P8H67M-Pro sells at newegg for $128 with shipping where as in Bangalore its price is INR7400 (~$164). But I believe in cities like Delhi and Mumbai it is available a bit cheaper. Unfortunately we do not have comparable online sites like amazon / newegg in India

there is ebay.in and it sucks... :)

60 GB SSD will set you back such ridiculous amounts of money that you'll be better off saving that money to get a better GPU later. Trust me, I tried! 😀 I think that P8P67M-Pro will actually be okay for you, since you're not into gaming/overclocking.

I don't agree about gap bridging in 4-6 months... I got my i7-2600 at $386 here, and that was about 6 months from when it was released at $300. And by the time you're done waiting for the price to drop, something new and better comes out, and I really hate that =) Just when I settled with a P8P67 Pro, new Z68 boards came out... grr! 😀

yes anything above >3 months is a lot these days :)

you buy when the stuff is released - buy at premium and regret later
you wait for 2 months and buy - the price drops a lot on the 3rd month
you wait for 3 months and buy - something better comes out the next month
buy anytime - only to realize that your old rig just worked fine for your needs 😀

The "M" designates a micro-ATX size. It will have 4 expansion slots.
It will fit in larger cases, but if your case is a m-atx size, then that is what you must get.
I have the P8P67-M PRO and have had no issues with it.

Since the "K" is only $4 more, get it if for no other reason to preserve your options.

If your work is cpu intensive, then you might want to look at the ASUS P8P67-M
and an inexpensive discrete graphics card. You should be able to find a useful card at $30.
An OC to 4.0 is trivial, and 4.5 is possible.

Didn't you say above that OC isn't possible in M series?

And no way you'll find a useful GPU for $30.

Also, I agree - if 2500K is indeed only $4 more, get it!
