asus (post) speaker question

In my p5wd2-e it shows 4 wires needed 1 +5v 2 for ground 1speaker my case speakers only have two wires (red and black) i always assumed one was + and the other -.
I assume the red wire will be for +5v and black for speaker and gound is not actually connected. is this correct? I dont get any "beeps" from it.
Without it i cant figure out why my system does not post

The speaker plug does span 4 posts on the MoBo. The outer two are connected to the speaker. Unless you have a bad wire or speaker, it should beep during post.
