I recently tried putting another hard drive in my computer, it was working fine. Then when I tried playing overwatch. My computer turns off than says asus power supply surge detected.

I know that this normally means I have a faulty PSU, but I have also heard that it can just be a false detection

I have a core i5 4440
gtx 1050 ti
SeaSonic G Series SSR-550RM 550W 80 PLUS GOLD

Solution
Try getting a UPS. Uninterruptible Power Supply. They are basically a surge protector power strip with a battery to keep your PC running for a few minutes so you can save and shut down in the event of a power outage.

Most UPS come with monitoring software to record watts used, power outages, spikes and surges. At least that way you can see if a surge is from the plug or PSU. If the surge is from the wall it will never reach your PC. Just make sure you get a big enough one. They are rated in Volt-Amps which is different than Watts. Read the fine print for watts.
