A few weeks ago I upgraded my motherboard and CPU to an Asus Z97-P and i7 4790k. It's been running perfectly ever since, but today I launched a game (I think it was Fallout 4) and my PC instantly turned off for a few seconds before turning back on. After the POST screen I got to a screen like this one (not mine): https://images.computerfrage.net/media/fragen/bilder/asus-anti-surge-was-triggered-to-protect-system-from-unsatble-power-supply-unit--was-tun/0_original.jpg?v=1457798649000

After this happened I went into bios and checked to see if everything was alright. Cpu voltage was 1.0-1.1v (not overvlocked), 3,3v was something like 3.4, 5v was 5.15ish v and 12v was fluctuating a bit between 11.9-11.5.

I rebooted and got back into Windows, and it worked great. I ran Aida64 and at around 4.15GHz it maxed at 52-49*C at all the cores. After this I let the PC idle for a bit before I launched CS:GO, and it loaded great (as usual), I minimized the game for like 1 minute and when i pressed the icon on the task bar my PC reset just like it did before. After that i rechecked BIOS, and rebooted back into Windows. It has been idling no problem for about 1,5 hours now.

Full specs:
Intel i7 4790k (installed a few weeks ago, was i5 4430s before)
Asus Z97-P (installed a few weeks ago, was Asus H87M PRO before)
Samsung 850 EVO 500gb (OS) + WD Black 1TB
Hyper 212 EVO
Cooler Master G650M 650w (installed since summer of 2014)
GTX 770 (installed since summer of 2014)
4GB and 8GB sticks (Adata i think) RAM from an OEM pc from 2013 (also Asus)

I have read that the power surge protection can be a bit flawed or over-sensitive, but I'm concerned to disable it incase the PSU is faulty, as I don't want any of my PC components to break. The PSU have been working great since i got it in 2014, but if it's broken I have warranty (it has 5 year warranty). The PSU is placed in tier 3 in the PSU chart here on tomshardware, and by the description it should be good enough for a relatively mid-end gaming system like mine.

http://pcpartpicker.com/list/vBXLCJ pcpartpicker says it should be using sub 500W, and even the reccomended PSU wattage from my GPU manufacturer is 600W (always a bit headroom from what you actually can use) which my PSU exceeds.

Solution
Hello InDaHood,

To me it seems that your chipset/motherboard is being overloaded with power. I would recommend trying a lower wattage PSU and see if that helps. I would also recommend going on live chat with one of the manufacturer's support. See what they say about your problem.

Cheers,

Thanks for answer. If it happens again I will contact asus or nvidia or something.

No problem. That sounds like a good idea. It does sound like it is being overloaded so if they say to try a lower wattage PSU, then I suggest you try it. If you ever get an error message, feel free to contact me.
