Asus prime pro x470 sound chip question

Hi guys, just built a new Desktop using the Asus Prime Pro X470 motherboard (https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/PRIME-X470-PRO/).

It features a Realtek S1220A audio chip. I was just listening through my headphones on my new Desktop PC and I can't help but feel that the audio is a bit underwhelming. When I plug my headphones into my laptop it seems to be slightly louder. So maybe I am having the wrong drivers installed. I can find very little information on this and can't even find drivers for this chip on Realtek's website.

When I open the sound panel in windows, it says high definition Audio device (Microsoft). I don't see anything with Realtek. On my laptop it says Realtek high definition Audio device (
Realtek).

Open the Windows Sound page, make sure that the Realtek HD Audio is the default audio. Make sure it is configured to your speakers.

I've used the RealTek HD Audio for a long time. It works, and sounds great.

Also note that Windows 10 updates device drivers. It has replaced the Realtek driver with a generic driver before. Just download and install the Realtek HD Audio driver directly from Realtek.

Do you have Sonic Studio installed? Don't think the latest Asus audio drivers include the software.

Under audio click see all downloads, install v8339. With Sonic Studio application should be able to enhance sound.

Grab latest ones from here: https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=6.0.1.8432 they sound pretty good.
https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/PRIME-X470-PRO/HelpDesk_Download/ are not bad either. Realtek HD Audio control has equalizer so you could make use of it too. There are also settings for sound correction with presets for headphones.

Thanks. But the problem was that I had no Realtek driver installed. I went to the Realtek website, but there was no driver available.

Eventually I went to the support page from my motherboard model, and I found the drivers over there. I find it very strange that Windows doesn't install the correct driver automatically. The difference between that generic Windows driver and the one I have right now is HUGE. It all sounds so much better now.

Yes, it's funny how Windows don't install newest drivers although they are there om MS site. Realtek is not releasing updated drivers directly any more. Asus doesn't release full drivers on time either, just major revisions that are many months behind. Newest drivers you can always find at the address I posted at MS site. They have to be installed thru Device manager manually and are not of same quality all the time.

We are configured with policy to disallow ms from updating drivers. It’s a good thing to do

That can present a problem when installing new HW.
