Hello,
I recently was recommend this graphics card for my PC:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-DirectCU-CrossFireX-Technology-Eyefinity/dp/B007RS49EG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1372964057&sr=8-2&keywords=amd+hd+7770

Every game I play crashes after 1-2 minutes including Saints Row 3, GTA and even games like Dota 2 and Don't Starve. The longest session I have played a game for is 15 minutes before my screen goes black, goes to desktop and the sound loops of the game and my computer becomes unresponsive.
I have tried clean uninstalling using the AMD uninstaller, and re-installing using the suggested download from AMD. I also tried installing from the disk but had the same issue. I have checked all drivers are up to date. I have also applied this fix from Microsoft, but no changes:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2665946

My system:

  • 10GB RAM DDR3
    Windows 7
    AMD Quad Core Processor
Corsair Builder Series CX 500 PSU

Any help would be really appreciated.

Solution
All 7000 series AMD cards and Nvidia 600 and 700 series cards as well as Titan are compatible with all PCI-E standards, so they are fully backwards compatible. The only thing that differs is the data bandwidth, which doesn't have a big enough difference between current gen 2.0 and 3.0 PCI-E graphics cards to make a noticeable difference. We're talking less than 5% performance gains with the top-tier cards.

Solution
Well the card works much better but after a while of playing it does freeze. Twice my PC has also shut itself down, I'm assuming this is due to heat.. My GPU goes up to 74 degrees while playing a game. I assume this isn't too good. (Weather is quite hot in the UK, so room is hotter than usual.)

74 degrees should still be fine. If you don't want to take my word for it, you can try increasing the fan speed manually via MSI Afterburner and trying to replicate the crash. Still, chances are you've got something else screwed up.

As you previously said that you had some weird stuff with your RAM, I'm thinking that might be it. You can try running Prime95 on blend using most of your memory for at least 24 hours straight and seeing if you run into crashes or memory errors. The more advanced way of testing your RAM is Memtest86+ which is run through the BIOS. Needless to say, you can't use your computer during that time.

Thank you, I'll have to set this up. When I turn auto off I suffer no crashes but three times my PC has just turned off after about 2 hours of playing. Whether this is because the fan just stops or it is something else I have no idea. Without testing everything else I can't say for sure if this card is just a bit of a dodgy make.

I have that exact same card except the asus one with two fans and 2gb of graphics ram, i have the exact same problems you have ! i have spent six months trying to fix it with no luck. I even got amazon to replace it with the same card, with no effect

Oliver what size is your PSU? I was considering upgrading because I still have issues with this card and thought that might revolve the issue. The only thing that improved performance was hizodge suggesting MSI Afterburner and adjusting the fan. The Sims 3 now runs perfect for me but after about 4 hours it starts to freeze for about 30 seconds and continues again, no big deal.

How do you go about doing this?

Go to http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/HD77702GD5/#support_Download_30
Go under Support tab and select your OS. Asus has a VGA BIOS update tool, use that. Not sure how automated it will be. If you don't know what you are doing, follow the instructions from Asus to the tee. If unsure, contact Asus customer support, they will assist you through the process. That way if something screws something up, at least you can hold them responsible.

Hard to say for certain but I doubt it. I think it's just the update tool that requires Asus motherboard to function. It's still possible to update your VGA BIOS without that tool, it just takes some know-how is all. I don't recommend meddling with it unless you know what you're doing. Get professional help from Asus that you're entitled for.

Pain in the ass but that's how computers are sometimes.

I am having exactly the same problems with my Asus 7770 1gb card.
Specs
AMD A6-QuadCore 3670APU
4gb Ram
Windows Vista 32bit
Corsair 450w VS Series
Any help apart from what has been listed above would be very helpful
Thank you!

*sigh* I just bought this power supply -.- Does the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 1GB work with this. Because i really do not want to end up replacing this power supply. Thanks for the help anyways.

So. Should the Nvidia one work with my power supply or will i have to buy a new one altogether

Hooray, just put in a 750w and the graphics card doesn't even make a peep when when running games on Ultra. No crashes yet. So my solution is my power supply.

The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 1GB needs at least 400w so you should be fine with that.

Update: Still crashes. No fix as of yet.

Hello, reporting a GPU problem I'm using a AMD 7000 series GPU(name more precisely at the info), having problems while gaming sometimes it crashes and I either receive the message 'Driver has stopped working and has recovered' or my screen goes like blurry and blocks out like vibes in different colors and it usually freezes which for I have to reboot the PC. I ll give you a quick info of my system:
-Asus Sabertooth z77 (MB)
-8GB of Ram Kingston Hyper
-700W PSU CoolerMaster Lite GX
-Intel Core i7-3770k 3.50 Ghz ...and
-Radeon HD 7950 RoyalQueen Club 3D HD Pokerseries
(long name for sure).

I was using WIN8 64bit after some time started to give me crashes, I reinstalled WIN7 64bit still the same, I've tried everything, updating the drivers, sweeping them all reinstalling fresh ones, under-clocking, over-clocking, cleaning registry, defraging and I don't know what else still end up with this weird problem. It was weird it didn't happen after is switched to WIN7 I switched DirectX for a game that it crashed the most (WorldofWarcraft) from DX11 to DX9 and it ran fine for some time I could say like 1-2 weeks, now it happens and I get the crash randomly not everytime and on games that I didn't get it before like Dota2. I've reported this problem at AMD official site asked for solution and suggestions, they didn't answer my ticket and I'm very very pissed and disappointed with AMD. What you suggest me to do anything?
Appreciate it!
-Cael.

I've started playing Skyrim and I have started getting the same issues again. I get the same error message that my drivers have stopped responding. Skyrim detected that I could play it in Ultra High, I turned it down to High but it crashed. Turned it down to medium but still crashed. This obviously seems to be a problem with the card because I have upgraded everything else and I am still having the same issues.
