Asus RTAC66U wifi signal terrible!

Just got a new asus RT-AC66U B1 and the wifi signal is terrible. I had my Samsung s8 plus literally touching the antennas and only get max 3 bars on either 2.4 or 5g channels.
If I walk into the other room of my 600sq ft apartment it drops the signal completely. My crappy old netgear router worked much better then this thing!

Any ideas? Already updated to the latest firmware.

Can you post the RSSI results for both bands, using Kewlsoft WiFi Analyser or a similar app? Also, how strong (in negative dBm) is the RSSI of nearby router SSIDs?
