I recent purchased a Asus Sabertooth 990FX and based on reviews, knew that the board will by default recognize a Corsair Vengeance DDR3 (2x4GB) cas 8 1600 as cas9 1333. I was told this can be corrected with minor tweak to the bios, but I'm lacking in bios/hardware settings knowledge, so can anyone help me to correct this??

Currently in the bios advanced option, under Ai Tweaker, I can set the memory freq to 1600 myself, but the DRAM settings report cas9 by auto, do i just set the first 3 manually to cas 8 to solve this issue entirely??

Also, if anyone is familier with the Asus UEFI Bios utility, under Tool > Asus SPD Information, there is a JEDEC with the default (incorrect) memory settings, and then a XMP #1, with all the correct settings for the memory, should I be worried about this part?? What exactly is the XMP referring to and is that something I should enable (where?) to correct the memory problem. Thanks for your time guys!

P.S. in the DRAM settings there are a lot more options than just the 4 latency timings that I see on the memory spec, which is 8-8-8-24. should I be changing any of these?

The 990FX is AMD and so there's unfortunately no 'XMP' setting; XMP is just another 'JEDEC' setting e.g. 'XMP-1600' but it's an Intel feature and not AMD. There are several "Corsair Vengeance DDR3 (2x4GB) cas 8 1600" so to avoid a mistake please post a link to your exact set of Corsair.

edit:
Q - Are you planning to OC the CPU by FSB?
Q - What CPU?

I was scratching my head over that one but it looks like it appears in his UEFI like I read it.

What's there to scratch your head over? I realize it's EFI doesn't change the fact that the AI Overclock Tuner lacks the 'X.M.P' {Intel} selection; the choices are Auto, Manual, & DOCP.

Assuming CMZ8GX3M2A1600C8 http://www.corsair.com/vengeance-8gb-dual-channel-ddr3-memory-kit-cmz8gx3m2a1600c8.html and NO CPU OC:
1600 MHz 9-9-9-24-2N (CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS) @ 1.50v

BIOS:
Memory Frequency -> DDR3-1600 MHz
DRAM Timing Control /Enter
CAS -> 8
TRCD -> 8
TRP -> 8
TRAS -> 24
--
Command Rate -> 2

DRAM Voltage -> 1.5v

Save & Exit = Yep!

Planning for some moderate OC on the CPU later.

Thanks for the inputs, I went ahead set the timing settings and freq. like you posted and it appears to reflect now, the correct memory settings, CPU-Z displayed my memory module running at cas 8-8-8-24 now. What is the difference between command rate 1T vs. 2T?? I am running 2x4GB of the memory module.

To guess - listen to what I say; ~<1% but more stable

To know - run something like Super PI; let me know and then Prime 95 and/or any stress test you can throw at it 😉

Super PI -> http://virgilioborges.com.br/hyperpi/

Also, anytime you tweek your RAM also run Memtest86+, create a bootable CD/DVD, download the ISO/zip file, and run at least 2-passes -> http://www.memtest.org/
note: 8GB 4-passes takes quite a while...

I am expecting NEARLY the exact same ram (CMP8GX3M2A1600C8) in two days and and the Sabertooth comes tomorrow. I too would be appreciative with help setting this stuff up. Thanks in advance!

The ram is 8-8-8-24 1.65v
I will not be overclocking at this time. I don't know how. Yet.
