Asus Sabertooth X58 + Gskill ram not running at 1600

Hi have an Asus Sabertooth X58 and I am using GSKILL F3-12800CL9T-12GBRL ram.

The ram is Capacity 12GB (3 x 4GB) Speed DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Cas Latency 9 Timing 9-9-9-24 Voltage1.5V

The ram for some reason is not running at 1600 but 1066 when the system is booted up.

Is there someway I can fix this?

Here is the full specs of my system. Any help is appreciated in advance.

Most 1.5 V RAM that I have had experience with runs at 1333 at 1.5V biut requires 1.65 volts for 1600 oft referred to as XMP setting.

Is there someway I can fix this?

Read your MoBo manual, specifically the BIOS section. Set the speed and timings as per the instructions in the manual.

X58 likes a bit more voltage. It needs 1.65v to run properly.

Mind that 12GB at 1600MHz is to much load for the memory controller to handle.

If the RAM is listed as 1.5v DDR3 1600 cas 9 then it should run at the listed speed and voltage. You just need to go in BIOS and set it manually. As stated above just check you motherboard manual and it will tell you where to do this.

I have no idea why people are telling you to run it at 1.65v.....the RAM is listed as 1.5v and should work just fine at that voltage. also 12GB of DDR3 1600 does NOT overload any X58 memory controller. Alot of bad information in this thread.

Agreed. I don't know why people are giving you this faulty advice either. If the memory is rated to run at 1.5Volts and 1600MHz, then, that's what it'll run at. You just have to select the proper memory profile in the system's BIOS.

Well i'm a novice when it comes to memory settings.

I'm honestly afraid to touch the settings in fear I may do something wrong.

I was hoping someone could tell me what I need to do.

Start with page 3-12 and enable XMP. If that does not work page 3-14 and 3-15 tell you how to manually set the frequency.

If you have no idea why I am telling the OP about voltage and memory controller limitations, then do not ask the OP to read his mobo manual, but read it yourself. According to Asus Sabertooth X58 manual 2.4.2 Memory configurations -- Due to Intel spec definition, X.M.P. DIMMs and DDR3 1600 are supported for one DIMM per channel only, or in a 12GB config http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1366/Sabertooth_X58/e5995_sabertooth_X58.pdf

Asus Sabertooth X58 is not in the memory manufacturer Qualified Motherboards List. GSKILL F3-12800CL9T-12GBRL is not in SABERTOOTH X58 Memory QVL (Qualified Vendors Lists) for Bloomfield CPUs. Both memory and motherboard manufacturers do not advice the config you´ve recommended.

I set the ai tweaker to XMP and saved the settings

Upon reboot the bios now displays the memory running at 1600 and I am now running memtest86+ version 4.2.0

I was reading the manual myself about the XMP setting but was kinda scared to set it as I was not what it would do. Always best to ask the experts first before doing something.

So far everything is working. I will just let memtest run for 1 or 2 hours and ill let everyone know the results. Hopefully all the memory passes and there are no issues.

I thought it would. I have seen some issues with people running 24GB of DDR3 1600 and your board but 12GB seems fairly common and problem free.

FYI, BIOS updates often contain new memory profiles. I had memory issues until a BIOS update fixed them.

If Memtest says your good then great, it's 99% reliable for detecting RAM issues.

*If you overclock your CPU you'll screw up your RAM frequency if you do it incorrectly. Usually, simply increasing the Base Clock frequency overclocks the CPU and RAM equally which you do not wish.

If you overclock the CPU, you probably need to go into the RAM settings and adjust the multiplier so it ends up back at 1600MHz.

Just FYI, some motherboards may handle this differently. I don't have an X58 board.

Ram memtest86+ last night for about 4 hours plus. No issues found.

As for overclocking ill probably never do that as I'm happy with the system as it is now.
