Well I recently purchased a new computer with an Asus Striker II Formula Mobo, and a Q9550

So the screen posted, but it did not recognize the CPU because it is newer then the motherboard. So I used a USB key and flashed the BIOS and it went through the whole process smoothly and quickly.

When I restarted, the mobo didn't post and I realized I must have fried the BIOS chip. So I have returned it to the store, and they will get back to me on Monday.

If I did fry it, and I get another Formula II board, how do I make sure that when I flash this will not happen again? Or is it all luck?

Thank You for the help...

It's impossible to "fry" a bios. But they do get corrupted on flashing. If you followed the correct steps, it's down to luck. That's why people don't update bios all the time, it's a risk. Some newer motherboards use dual bios, with one being backup, which should help.

You are taking a risk when you update the bios. If the power goes out when you are updating halfway, you have a dead mobo. To be safe when updating bios, I would have a UPS (not the delivery company) hooked up. That way just incase the power goes out, you are still running on battery.

Yea I pretty much have no choice because the CPU is newer then the board so flashing is my only way unfortunately, so I guess it all comes down to luck in the end, hopefully my next one is ok...

You can always get a refund and buy a $99.99 p45 board that supports 45nm quads out of the box.
