[citation][nom]amk-aka-phantom[/nom]I don't want to think consoles, I don't want to throw up on my keyboard Exactly what market change do you want? Sake for the sake of change is bloody stupid, Ubuntu 11.04 with its Unity crap proved it perfectly. PC are just fine the way they are.I will defend a company who takes a concept, refines it and sells it at a lower price than the other one. Value for money is always worth defending.[/citation]

"I will defend a company who takes a concept, refines it..."

Refines what? What did they refine?? Almost spec for spec it's identical - where is the refinement? Is it made of Ti? What's so refined?

What you should have written was "I will defend a company who takes a concept, copies it 6 months after the fact and puts it out for $200 cheaper!"

Yay for being mediocre...

I meant tablets, because Apple defenders usually bring up them as the market-changer, and Transformer IS the refined tablet concept (dock from the start, dock charges the tablet and brings extra USB, better specs and price). Ultrabook from Asus is a fail (just as the Air is same fail for me), as I already said, though it IS cheaper. It will find its audience.

You keep bringing up Ubuntu which has nothing to do with this argument. It's free, great! And "PC are just fine the way they are." ?? Really, you can't serious, I must be misunderstanding you! Why don't we all go back to XP it worked beautifully! ROFL

Ubuntu is just a good analogy for many stupid things tech "innovation" brings sometimes. So what don't you like about PC hardware? Going back to XP is software-related, and you were pissed about hardware. There's nothing "innovative" to be done in PC hardware, just make it faster, more power-efficient and cheaper. The general concept is perfect.

India is great for Indians but don't do a US press release and then put a pretty picture on your website with nothing to back it up for months.

Payback's a b**ch, isn't it? That's what US gets for US-only contests and such 😀

If Apple didn't release a Macbook Air they wouldn't have something to clone.

Unfortunately, the Air IS here and they DID clone it. I'd prefer ultrabooks didn't exist at all in their current state (rip-off laptop with underpowered specs which is 1 kg lighter than the rest but costs more). Ultrabooks should become new netbooks instead.

If you paid attention to my previous response I said Innovate, do something better, not just match the specs for a little less... This is the reason these companies have yet to take Apple's crown.

Here we go again... How is Apple innovative? MB Air is already there for a long time, and it's a simple concept, really - I was only too glad no one copied it until Intel came up with this ultrabook BS.

Competition isn't bringing the same sh*t to the market for a little less...

Ummm... no, this is EXACTLY what it is about.

USB 3.0 is important, but does it have Thunderbolt/lightspeed? no.

No one does, because Apple bribed Intel handsomely to make sure Thunderbolt stays Apple-exclusive for a while. Asus and Gigabyte are always first to use new features on their mobos, how come they still don't have it? Because Intel pretended that they "have troubles" with using USB 3.0 natively in their chipsets, while in fact they developed Thunderbolt for Apple.

LOL, keep bringing up that you're such a man for carrying a heavy laptop! :)

If you wish :) Oh, did I mention that I don't mind carrying heavy laptops? 😀

It us almost as if these morons are driving business to Apple. I was in the market for the UX21 for some time, as I figured loading Win onto a MBAir would end up being too expensive.

What do I get for my patience? Not even a gd website with a proper way to purchase a showcase product that they have apparently been developing for over a year! This is how they what they call a 'Mega Launch'?

What a shame this is. Utterly disgusted and disappointed here. It is not that Apple does much right as much as these r*tards eff things up like this.

Can you believe some Mactard fuckwit fanboi actually thumbed you down, that was comedy gold.

By the way, point of priciple for Macfans, the Toshiba Portege series was an Ultrabook before the Macbook Air even existed, although not thinner (by a couple of millimeters) it was lighter and it managed to pack an optical drive.

Sure argue performance, look and feel all you want or that it had an SSD, big whoop, just like the smartphone, the tablet, the GUI, the mouse, the Apple logo, the iPod menu, the iPhone name, the iPad name, they were all incumbent items owned, invented, used by other companies till they swooped in and either outright stole them, or co-opted them to claim invention of by virtue of "refinement" after the fact.

Even OSX is a copy of BSD.

Is there actually anything that Apple has invented? Or has Rogets Thesaurus entry for "innovation" been edited to include the word "theft" as a synonym?

[citation][nom]amk-aka-phantom[/nom]I meant tablets, ....... laptops?[/citation]

Wow, I appreciate you taking the time to cut and paste all the quotes, LMAO

1. "Tablets" who the hell is talking about tablets? You don't like the Asus - great! The tablet that Apple released kinda started the market craze - It wasn't the first but no one landed it with the right combo to make people want it. BTW, I will cite sales as proof. I LOVE the ASUS Transformer! I want them to keep making it better! It's actually a good alternative to the iPad - but until it's got a better OS (that's updated regularly) it's gonna have problems. Again - sales as proof.

2. I brought up XP because you brought up Ubuntu to discussion about hardware. Why are you now complaining?

3. "Payback is a b*tch"??? Asus is releasing products late and losing money - it has nothing to do with payback. What kind of ignorant argument are trying to make? What business is trying to teach "Evil" America a lesson by losing money on a product they don't release on time?

4. You hate ultrabooks - GREAT!! Good for you!!! It's your opinion. Some people hate the ASUS tablet and think they should carry a server around all the time because they need that hardware power to create a spreadsheet!

5. "How is Apple innovative?" Even the staunchest Android fans agree that Apple has brought some innovative products to the market. It's taken Asus 6 months to copy the Apple "concept" - Asus would give a left testicle to have the same number of sales as the Air!
It's like saying ASUS doesn't make ANY innovative products? What planet are you living on? Asus made their Netbook and started the craze, but to say Apple hasn't done ANYTHING is ignorant. Before the first iPhone was released BBerrys and Palms were the smart phones - they sucked, I know because I owned both. Apple kinda made that market. We can argue who's better till your cows come home but that's not the point here.

6. YUP there's a conspiracy! Evil iNtel (who doesn't want to make a profit) gave ONLY Apple that technology because that's how you win market share and make money...

Hate to break it to you but Sony has Thunderbolt/Lightspeed. Asus (your favorite company in the whole world) is releasing Motherboards with Thunderbolt. It's expensive but it would be STUPID for iNtel to just give it to Apple...

You should stop carrying a heavy laptop and start carrying a server, it would be more powerful for your spreadsheets 😉

On a complete aside - Do you live in India? I have a question related to that :)

Innovation isn't about being first. it's about doing something in a different way that makes a difference.

I'm not sure why innovative because "first" in your book. Toshiba can have the "first" crown, and it was innovative for it's time, but it didn't generate the sales that the Air has. We are talking about making money, right?

It's been fun sparring with you boys but I gotta get to class.

Here's one (Not the only) definition of innovative:
innovative [ˈɪnəˌveɪtɪv]
adj
using or showing new methods, ideas, etc.

So new method of combining hardware/software/design/marketing... That may be the secret sauce

So how come the Apple faithful are treating their products in a way that Steve Jobs never intended

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/10/11/respect_jobs_by_beating_him/

My favourite bit is this
But the suggestion that Apple somehow figured out tablets, smartphones, etc, once and for all, and that no one can surpass Apple's vision, is not only ridiculous, but a slap in the face to Jobs' thinking. In fact, the whole deification of Jobs is a slur on Jobs
And as far as rewriting history goes, what bit about theft of product or names was incorrect?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Inc._litigation

If you can't be bothered to research the subject matter before entering a discussion I shall be forced to give you the stinkeye

Haha, Can you now please post litigation for Microsoft, IBM, Samsung, AT&T, Verizon or any company that produces a product, pretty please :)

BTW, I still don't see your point with the first article - it's an opinion piece from the Register. Please enlighten me :)

The opinion, is from Jobs own commencement address, you can't have it both ways.

Haven't you got a class to go to, kid?

[citation][nom]back_by_demand[/nom]The opinion, is from Jobs own commencement address, you can't have it both ways.Haven't you got a class to go to, kid?[/citation]

Ha "kid" I haven't been called that in years. Not sure if you made a mediocre attempt at a put down or not, but what do I expect from someone who calls anyone who uses an Apple product a "mactard"

BTW, I wrote my last response when we had a break and now I'm back so here goes:

I get it you hate Apple, there is nothing that will change that. Even to go as far as to argue your point in a discussion forum about a Macbook Air clone from Asus that is spec for spec almost identical.

The article in the Register you linked to actually makes my point, but you're hatred for all things Apple may prevent you from seeing that.

I like and give credit to Apple only as much as they produce products I like. If Asus had released the Air and Apple was scrambling to make a clone, I would have harsh words for their poor attempt instead.

I will reiterate Job's words "don't settle": Asus shouldn't settle for an almost exact clone of the Air but make a better product. That's what I expect. Jobs was right. Customers will chime in on settling for Asus' clone and it's sales success or failure will show for it.

Not every product a company produces is game changing or "New" - They will take ideas from other companies with a vision to make a product that people will buy. Apple has made this a reality and it's up to another company to one up them or for them to fail at it miserably. Either way we get a better product.

We can argue that their products are or aren't innovative but their sales prove otherwise. There is no conspiracy or brainwashing. People want something that works without having to jump through hoops (rooting for example). Giving people what they want is good business.

[citation][nom]sundragon[/nom]"I will defend a company who takes a concept, refines it..."Refines what? What did they refine?? Almost spec for spec it's identical - where is the refinement? Why should the laptop be made of Ti if it's heavier than Al, doesn't that defeat the purpose of a small and light laptop?

Sales have nothing to do innovation, so please don't mix them up.

Haha, glad you enjoyed it. Now, if I could only pull it off IRL...

Apple invented one thing: the concept of tech-illiterate people using tech and for that, they deserve to burn.

1 - you're an Apple fanboy and I assumed I'll deal with you as such

2 - Ubuntu was a good analogy; XP one made no sense.

3 - Asus is NOT an American company. They're based in Taiwan. They're NOT obliged to release stuff in America first...

4 - Yeah, that's my opinion. That's what the comment section is for.

5 - Before iPhone there was Symbian, and it was great; still is, btw. Nokia N95 >>> iPhone 1.

6 - Not a conspiracy, that IS indeed how the market works. But Asus and Sony only got that tech now; Thunderbolt is already out for about a year.

7 - Carry a server? Lol, I would, but I'm not a Space Marine... and the wires are annoying. I'd gladly carry a powerful mini-ITX/micro-ATX with me if I'd finally find a thin light 10-14'' PORTABLE (detachable stand, folding, etc) screen.

8 - Spreadsheets? Is that what you do on your Air? 😀

9 - Yes, I do live in India, though I have no idea what question you could ask me aboot it.

Dont give a ...
I like gaming laptops, and a two digit GB hdd, and a almost non existing GPU.
Tablets, Ultrabooks, smartphones...
All useless gadgets to me. I want to play: laptop + desktop.
I need to make a call, i have a phone (mobile if someone needs to locate me).
I want music: i got a audiophile quality mp3.

I kinda wonder: Why companies keep remaking things that already exist, jsut in diffrent format, instead of making somethin actually new.

http://www.asuslaptop.co.uk/proddetail.php?prod=UL30A-QX328V-SSD

I bought one of these, it actually gets 12 hours out of it with light word processing, on full power playing Football Manager I've gotten 8 hours out of it. It's not the most up to date processor, but still is rapid. I'm really pleased with it.

Might not be ultra thin, however it is still light and portable and it boots windows in 20-25 seconds thanks to the SSD.

LMAO!

1. You're ignorant or stupid, not sure so I'll deal with you as such.

2. Your Ubuntu analogy was a weak attempt at saying there shouldn't be any attempts at improving OS or hardware on the PC... What a stupid thing to say. Not every attempt is a homerun, but you would dunk all of Ubuntu for one mistake.

3. No one says they have to release anything in America first. But in business (since you obviously have no idea of what I'm talking about) you don't do a press release specific to a country then not release your product unless you want to look like you can't deliver. Asus is guilty of this to the extreme. They don't need to release anything in the US first, but when they say they will per their own press release, they should deliver... I can't believe this was a stretch for you to get??!?

4. Yup like an a$$ hole everyone has an opinion :)

5. Symbian was so fantastic that Nokia is dropping it for Windows Mobile 7 look up stuff before you post
example

6. This sentence made no sense or point...

The rest is worthless to respond to. Forget the India question, it would require some Intelligence...

Wow, you people are hilarous - I hope you don't drive cars because you don't know how to repair them or wait don't fly in a plane because you aren't a pilot. Bringing tech to tech illiterate people has made Apple rich and guess what - it's what Sony and the rest are trying to do.

Looking down on people who aren't tech literate may make you feel better about yourself.. LOL

I knew you're gonna say that. Actually, yes, I'm trying to learn as much as I can about fixing my vehicles, and if I could, I'd love to learn how to fly a plane. I prefer to know how things work. Ignorance is bliss, but if you know about how things work, you save time and money.

4) you sound like some of my less intelligent classmates 4 years back

5) Nokia is f'ing stupid; Symbian could have stayed competitive or they could've switched to Android, but MS paid well

6) k

Yes, the India question would indeed require some intelligence, which you apparently lack.
