asus x542uf laptop support m.2 nvme ssd or support only m.2 sata?
Sumsung 960 evo works on asus x542 uf with top speed or not?

There is currently a SATA based m.2 drive.
Highly unlikely that port would also take an NVMe drive.

And unlikely you'd see enough of a difference to warrant double the price per GB.

I found the answer, only sata3 m.2 128 or 256 can be installed
Nvme not work in laptop.
