Got all the parts new and put together. Everything powers on but no post. "vga led" is lite but no signal from video. Manual on indicates that means a problem but no clue what that is. Another video card does same thing.

verify with your users manual that you have it in the correct slot, that you have the correct power going to it, are using the cables from the correct PSU (if this is a modular. Cables are not generally interchangeable).

If you have the rampage motherbd, did you plug in the extra 4 pin power connector that by the motherbds 8pin cpu power?

Please list/link your builds specs. Thanks.

edit How sure are you that its the VGA led? I dont know of an asus x99 bd that has that, I thought they all had the q-code leds and a dram led.

OK. I guess it's not a rampage because there is not a 4 pin connector on it. I did check the manual and it says that the slot I have it in is a PCI express 3.0/2.0 X16 and the card says it's PCI express 3.ox16 so that should be right. The "vga led" is just above that slot and says "vga led" on the label next to it and the manual says that is what it is also. 3 of the pci slots say that they are the same and 1 says it's 2.0x16. there are several led's on the board that light and go off when I turn the power on. It does have the q-code and dram led. The q-code says AE and the dram led goes off.

Disconnect all the extra devices except the ram. No drives or gpu at all, use the integrated, and nothing in the mini slots - then see if you can get into the bios at least.

AE is a legecy boot issue

Looks like its a common occurance: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?21823-Maximus-V-not-booting-with-mPCIe-card-plugged-in-Try-these-tricks&country=&status=

I'll try that but there is no display built in so I'm going to try and find a card with vga port on it and see what that does.

I know that AE means legecy boot but is that a problem indicator? Their manual is not very helpfull. I've been building systems for 15 years and never had this many question about what a MB was telling me. Thanks for all your help!

Well .. im not a pro but just built a computer with Asus X99-a. Mine booted with i7 integrated graphics card.. had to download drivers for my evga gtx 970 sli when i had internet connection.. had bunch of error on device manager but the asus driver cd took care of all the driver issues.. Also your computer will not boot if you do not have fan hooked up on cpufan... i have it ignored since i am using liquid cooling.
