I have a dead ROG Maximus z690 HERO Eva Edition. Asus wants to replace it with a https://rog.asus.com/motherboards/rog-maximus/rog-maximus-z790-dark-hero/ . When I told them that I have a CORSAIR HX1200i power supply they said it is not compatible. They won't give me a reason. Corsair is not accepting phone calls at this time & they sent me an email asking why Asus says the HX1200i isn't compatible! No ONE has Answers! I'm hoping I can get an answer here. I really don't want to be buying a new power supply because this one is only a year old. My computer has been down for 2 months now. I don't game, I edit music & video. I'm 71 years old... this is the 2nd computer I built. If I get the right parts I can do it. ;) Just need the right advice.

Is the Corsair HX1200i compatible with the ROG z790 Maximus Dark Hero? Why or why not?

If I accept the Z790 dark Hero, I'll need to buy a new Corsair PSU. Any suggestions there?

Here is my current build.
* Asus Rog Maximus z690 Hero Eva Edition (DEAD MOTHERBOARD UNDER WARRANTY)

* Intel i9 12900k Processor
*Corsair HX 1200i Power Supply
* (4 Sticks) G. Skill Trident Z5 RGB Series (Intel XMP 3.0) DDR Ram 32 GB (2x16) 6400MT/s CL32-39-39-102 1.40V Desktop Computer Memory UDIMM- Matte Black (F5-6400J3239G16GA2-TZ5RK)
* EVGA Geforce RTX 3060TI
* Western Digital WD-Black 2TB SN850X NVME (with operating Sytem/ Probgrams)

Apparently you have a compatibility list for PSU's published on the support site for the exact motherboard listed;

Further reading;

Honestly the PSU you have should be fine for your build. Unless they know something we don't.

Ok here's the latest email from Asus. I guess I can just tell them to send me the z790 Dark hero replacement and use my HX1200i and see if it works.

From Asus

Of course! I apologize I didn't think you would be interested if you needed a different PSU. I am unsure personally why it would not work I just know it was not on the approved list of PSUs for that model. I thought that was odd as well so I reached out to our technical team whom confirmed it was not compatible but did not explain further. I will reach out to see if we can get additional information. Please allow 48 hours for an update.
According to our approved list the below Corsairs models would be compatible with ROG MAXIMUS Z790 DARK HERO. If you would like to see the rest of the models you may use the link below to view. You will need to change the tab to other devices then change the drop down from HDD to power supplies to see the list.

If and PSU has all standard cablesand MB connectors there's nothing else to be incompatible. Only some brand name ready made PCs can have different connectors, mainly 24pin.
