I'm working on a friend gaming build and its not that bad. The problem overall is not fully booting. It boots up for 1-2 sec and shut back down. I've tried every method I can think of from A+ to whatever I can find on google. Everything is practically brand new. The specs are

Case: CoolerMaster Stryker
Mobo: Asus Z97 Deluxe
CPU: I7 4770K
Memory: Patriots 16GB 2400Mhz (8gb*2)
PSU: EVGA SuperNova G2 1000w
GFX: Geforce 8800GT

I tested the PSU to make sure its not a defect with the paperclip method. It got continuous spin.

I looked for shorts, on the copper mounts where the motherboard sits on, looking for loose screws if there is any, and making sure no wires touching part where its not to be at.

I went down to one memory stick and jumper onto every slot. Then rotated to the other memory stick. Problem still persist.

Took out the CPU 12v cable from board, system ran continuous, but the led won't change past 00. Might be a bad CPU?

Took out the CPU, Board boots up, LED red on the CPU side.

Need a 2nd, 3rd, or 20th opinion on this. Want to make sure I'm right on the ball before moving on. Been working on this for 2 days so far.

Solution
Have you plugged both the main power supply connection 24 pin. And also the 4 or 8 pin power. On that board the CPU fan will spin with only the 24pin power cable pluggeg in. Both the 24 ( main power connection ) and the 4 or 8 pin (depending on power supply used) must be used to make the mb post. On that particular board the 8 power input is located in the top left of the CPU.
I had an instance where the 4 pin from my power supply was not seated and the CPU fan would run but would not boot up.
Worth a check.
Hope this helps. I think I remember reading the manual that it says Don't forget to plug the 4/8 pin power or system won't boot.
Hi
As ErVivek has said have you plugged the cpu power connector in to the board ,also the evga g2 is modular so did you by accident plug the cpu power to a pci header on the psu instead of the cpu atx power header on the psu ,also the cpu fan header is positioned over to the right of the socket on this mobo it's easy to mistake the cpu opt fan header for the cpu fan header ,plus you didn't say what type of cooling you were using ie watercooled or air

I have a simular problem with a ASUS Z97-PRO (Wi-Fi AC). Failure to post. On power only fans on top or board (fan & opt fan) run (after a minute they also slow a bit), 200mm fan lights up but wont spin, no beep, no video on any ether VGA onboard or card ports, LED won't pass 00. I ordered 2 ASUS Z97-PRO (Wi-Fi AC)'s with the same issue. I stripped both boards down to CPU (stock i& heatsink/fan), RAM, PSU with same result. Is it likely I have 2 DOA mobo's or is it the CPU? 🙁

BUILD INC:
Intel 17-4790K, 4GHz CPU
Corsair H100i cooler
Corsair AX860i PSU
Corsair Vengeance GB (2x8/16GB/2133MHz)
Plextor 128GB M.2 SSD
EVGA GeForce 210 (with & without to test)
upgraded fans: Cougar Vortex PWM 120MM (1 back / 2 H100i)
Corsair Obsidian 650D case ( upgraded front fan CoolMaster MegaFlow 200mm - blue LED)

Did you check and make sure that your standoffs are in the right places? I've erred before and left a standoff in the wrong spot especially when dealing with boards that have 10 of them and then drop in a board that only has 9.

My case has the ATX stand offs pre-installed. I had screwed them all down to just "tight." But he problem still happens after I removed mobo and did it on my static mat. Problem was repeatable on 2 different ASUS Z97-PRO (Wi-Fi AC) mobo's!

Did you ever solve? I am having same issue

I just finished my first gaming build with an Asus Maximus VII Hero as Motherboard and a Thermal Take Urban S71 as Case and I seemed to have the same problem. All the fanns turned on for about 1 - 2 seconds and then they stopped again but the Motherboard was still working as the lights on it were still lit.

I tried unplugging different components and such like until I found out it was the Power LED pins for some reason the PC booted when the two Power LED pins were unplugged. Meaning all the fans were running etc. As soon as the two pins touched the connectors for more than 2 seconds again the PC shut down again.

I have no idea why the Power LED pins affected the boot up but I think it might be worth a try unplugging them.

If still not boot this mobo...
In the bios, in boot section, can be found a menu point under the CSM (this must be AUTO!): Secure boot.
If you have MBR and no UEFI compatible partition, then go in, and change the default "Uefi Windows boot" setting, to "Other Operations System"... not sure but try it.. perhaps works... 😉
