I am a dinosaur and have had only a desktop until now. I have an At&t DSL modem. I recently purchased a laptop and wireless printer. If I no longer us the desktop, will the modem suffice to get a connection with a laptop or do I need a router anyway?

Thanks

You can connect directly to the laptop but you'll need a USB cable for the printer. Why not just get a wireless router?

Seeing as the printer has wireless built in, you won't be needing the USB cable.

Instead, just make sure the wireless in your laptop is turned on, "Fn + F2" unless your laptop uses
some other button or key combo.

Then with the Printer setup disk, during the installation, you'll be given three choices, USB, Ethernet
or Wireless. You'll want the wireless selection.

Just make sure that you secure the printer during the setup with a strong password which will also
be entered in your laptop settings during setup so you don't have to worry about entering it again.
(Just keep a copy somewhere just in case)
