Is there a big difference in transfer rate and performance between ATA100 mode against ATA66.

For some reason, Win2000 is not detecting my IBM ATA100 HDD connected to the ATA100 slot on my Asus A7V. So I am thinking of reconnect the HDD to my primary IDE connectors running at ATA66. So is there much of a speed difference ?

Thanks

There is significant throughput to be gained by going to ATA100, in my research I have found that there is a different kind of 40 pin cable used for ATA100 drives. (This may or may not be your problem) It is a 40 pin cable, however, there are 80 wires in the ribbon itself) Also, there seems to be some significant BIOS upgrades for this board, and i suggest determining what level BIOS you have and updating it. You can find this info at http://www.vr-zone.com/guides/asusA7V/. Hope this could help you.

Between ATA66 and ATA100, I would have to say that there is no significant gain in performance. Random burst transfers will be quicker, but the sustained transfer rate of HDDs right now is still only just above the full potential of ATA33.
