To the guy who broke his keyboard; you can press ALT-32 (numpad only) to print a space. Press ALT-65 and you will see an 'A' print. This has been around forever to type ASCII characters that keyboards don't support.

How come I can only go up to 1152x864?

I've got a 7800 GTX and my LCD is good for 1280x1024! Works in EVERYTHING else at 1280!

Weird.....

"Im a 100% gamer and i play Fear, Bf2, Hl2 etc. and am hoping to run these games and any upcoming fps's on max detail nice and smoothely. "

With the GTX256's rather high prices, I'd probably save an extra $50-$100 and instead opt for a single 1900XT, which will be roughly par in performance with a pair of SLI'd GTX256 cards...

As to the original question, yes, the 3700+ is certainly enough processor for gaming, and, the higher the res, the less important it becomes in the results. (In FEAR's performance demo at 1024x768/4xAA/16xAF, for instance, a 3500+ scores the same as an FX57, meaning, once you are gpu bound, 600 MHz extra offers little benefit.)

"My system easily runs FEAR at highest no AA/Full AS filtering/no soft shadows @ 1280x1024, that's with a 6800gt...
"

FEAR is rather a beast, but as long as AA/SS is off, most cards can handle it at decent resolutions...

Once 4xAA/16xAF is on at only 1024x768, the average 79 fps a 7800GT gets, for instance quickly drops to 52 fps average

a 600 W PSU is way over the top... you will never need that... with your config a 450W PSU is enough... even with SLI. If you wanna be on the save side with SLI I would max go for 500W but 600 is the value for the year 2010 PC.

600W will waste energy like crazy 4 nothing...

I guess im in for a treat then 😀 , i probly wont even be using high resolutions anyway cause of my 17" IBM monitor, but theres always room for upgrades!

Oh no.... i didnt know i was that overboard. So are you saying it wont work with my system at all or is it just that it'll give more power than needed?? Aslo what PSU's are you guys using?

"sli is a waste of money. "

I wouldn't say *that*.....; an extra 7800GT bumps FEAR framerates from 49 fps to 98 fps at 1024x768/4xAA/16xAF, a mere 92% boost or so..

Yes, the 1900XT is outstanding, and its the way I personally would go, but, what about the performance offered by, perhaps,... two 7900GTX's?? 🙂

If anything, it's Crossfire with a pair of 1900's that is a waste of money, as the 1900 series does not really scale upward in performance as much as SLI comos do...

"

Or really, even 600 watts will not cut it for some of the quad-sli Dell rigs coming...

(Each video card pair will also need an external 125 watt laptop PS running it!) Total: 850 watts

That should be good for F.E.A.R., but don't expect resolutions higher than 1280x1024.

You kidding? My system easily runs FEAR at highest no AA/Full AS filtering/no soft shadows @ 1280x1024, that's with a 6800gt...
Why buy a high end card if you can't use antialiasing? I use 8X for most of my games, and 4X for a special few, such as Age of EmpiresIII and F.E.A.R.

I think higher resolutions > AA in image quality.

Would SLI 7800 gtx's actually be necessary for playing games like FEAR on max if i'll only be playing at 1024x768 resolution?

no I dont think so... I played on close to maxed out with a 7800 gt single card. I played it at 1680x1050 or whatever was closest I can remember
the GTX at lower res it would be fine. Two would be overkill in SLi But if I had the money sure.

Hell no! By the way, never fall for SLi/Crossfire advertising. It's all marketing and bragging rights; real world performance would be better to have one super-powerful card.
