Intel provides a utility for P III CPU's which tell you if they're overclocked or not( among other things ) . From what I've seen , AMD doesn't have similar utility for Athlon which does this . Is there any program which can do this for an Athlon TBird ( 1 Ghz ) ?
Thanks

No. Intel codes their chips internally so they can be autodected, AMD does not. More specifically, Intel CPU's are multiplier lock internally and id'd for bus speed internally so that they can be autodetected. AMD does not need to code for bus speed (until recently they only had one), and their processors ar mutiplier locked externally. Therefore, the is no provision for detecting it.

Suicide is painless...........

Thanks Crashman . Is there any possible way I can check this ? I'm not sufficiently experienced to start taking the PC apart .

yeppers, all athlons (old and new) are labeled, tom has a guide to readint them somewhere on here. it should look something like "A0800APT3B" under AMD Athlon letters

If at first you don't succede, skydiving isn't for you.
