I get "CPU unworkable...." from ABIT BIOS. Everything turned on OK. What does this mean?...did I fry my CPU already? I connected the L1 bridges before I stuck on the cooler block but that looked really good so I don't think that's the problem...any ideas out there?...my first time so I don't know where to start. Even tho it's an 800MHz T-brd, the BIOS had it set at 6.0X = 600....????

Hey! these are EASY questions....anybody out there?

Dude... u gotta make sure that the L1 bridges aren't interconnected this will fry the cpu instantly (or so I have heard). What did u use to close the bridges? I used a normal plain good old pencil and it works fine on my Duron... I would say that u haven't completely fried your processor since u get something on the screen at least but u might have damaged it in some way...

Sorry not much help there from me.......

I just built my new system (Thunderbird 1.2 GHz & Abit KT7A-RAID), and upon first boot I also got the "CPU unworkable" in BIOS... the CPU settings in the BIOS also had 6.0x100. I simply corrected the settings (set CPU to 12.0x100), saved changes and rebooted. Everything was fine; I think that the "CPU unworkable" message shows up when a new CPU is put in the mobo (or if it's a new mobo), and the CPU BIOS settings need to be adjusted to reflect your chip.

You might also want to try clearing the CMOS jumper on the mobo...

Don't worry_ I got that too. Actually I put my two HD's and burner, DVD all on their own bus, and when I did I forgot to change the jumper on the DVD to master so it was running as a slave on it's own bus. Quick fix for which I am fortunate, so hopefully it's something stupid like that.
Or do you smell smoke and see flames shooting out the holes when you boot? You just can't overclock an 800 to 1.6G man! Lol and good luck!

OK, I responded to your question in another place already, but here goes again, YOUR CPU IS NOT FRIED. If you connected the L1 bridges from the start, before ever firing up the motherboard once, then put the L1 bridge connected CPU in the mobo and fired it up, than the motherboard is telling you that it cannot read from the CPU what speed it should be set to. So your 800mhz CPU is telling the motherboard, "What do I do?" and defaults to 600mhz so it can at least run if you press F1 to continue the booting process. You need to go into the BIOS, enter the CPU setting and set the CPU to 800mhz, default for your 800mhz CPU and get your system running. BE SURE TO INSTALL THE VIA CHIPSET DRIVERS!!!!! I would go to www.viahardware.com, look for 4-in-1 drivers on the left, and download version 4.28, unzip them, and install them by running the setup. You will need them to make the system stable in Windows. After all is good in Windows, commence the overclocking. I would go straight to 1Ghz, with the voltage set to 1.85V, you CPU runs at 1.70V at 800mhz.
