i just checked out prices on pricewatch.com and am confused to say the least - why are AMD Athlons priced substantially less than AMD Thunderbirds of the same CLOCK SPEED ??? Thunderbird is just the codename for Athlon is it not ?? For example they show an AMD Athlon 800 for $93 and then show AMD Thunderbird at $118.. hmm i just paid $170 RETAIL for a AMD Athlon 800 (or whatever it is!) very confused

The AMD Athlon is a Slot A processor, it uses memory cache that doesn't run the full speed of the processor.

The AMD Thunderbird is not the same. It's a Socket A processor, and it's cache is running full speed (same speed as the core).

Thunderbird is better

Athlon is the origanal, cache at lower speed than the core.
1/2 or 1/3.
Tbird core is the same speed as cache and is on die.
